- By and large, Dream Daddy succeeds at creating developed characters that have unique stories, interesting dialogue, and fun personalities. I wouldn’t call anything here realistic; the cul de sac where the game takes place feels like a dreamy land where only the happiest characters exist, despite the hardships that they discuss. Dream Daddy looks great in handheld and TV mode, and this version boasted a handful more optional scenes, but nothing strikingly new in comparison to the rest of the dates.
Xander Morningstar · Aug 24, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Personally, I’ve always enjoyed a nice dialogue choice-based storytelling game, on the road! Another thing worth mentioning is: Many can find enjoyment in Dream Daddy, no matter the sexuality you possess — though depending on it, one might enjoy such more. Hence my scoring, as a genre enthusiast. I haven’t played a meaningful dialogue selection game in awhile, so this was a refreshing change in pace.
Seth Cano · Jul 11, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - There are countless visual novels devoted to dating a bunch of very busty women, but few that turn that trope onto its head; Dream Daddy does that through objectifying men. Not in a mean way, or even an overly-sexual way – instead, Dream Daddy makes virtual dating wholesome and punny. It shows the importance of community and friendship, especially for a single parent. It’s not so much about the dating as it is exploring new interests through new people. I’m so appreciative of the experience.
Lindsay Mayhew · Jul 05, 2019 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Heartwarming; that’s the word to describe Dream Daddy. It’s a feelgood game, from its tongue-in-cheek Dream Weaver-esque theme tune to its message of acceptance and generally being excellent to one another. The entire game lives on its writing, which is universally excellent and works on multiple levels whether you’re a parent or the child of one. On the surface it’s a hot dad dating game – the swirly logo font and colourful presentation lean into that – but there’s real heart to the stories here, with textured characters dealing with a multitude of situations life throws at them.
Gavin Lane · Jul 05, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - I only played through the game once and it took around 90 minutes from start to finish. I did not pursue dates with the other dads and wonder if things would be better explained had I made different choices. Considering I’ve already written 2000 words on a game with no gameplay that lasted less than two hours, I would say I’ve probably seen enough. Did I learn anything about myself? Would I have enjoyed it more if these people were gay terminators as part of a weird government social experiment? Probably, yeah.
Chris Jarrard · Oct 29, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - I went into Dream Daddy hoping that it would be good, but not necessarily believing it. I want what Dream Daddy is selling: a romance game about queer dads that love each other and love their kids. It doesn’t necessarily approach this construct with the nuance and hard edges that are present for real-life queer single dads. But at its core, this is a game that’s funny and good-hearted, presenting a world where a single queer dad’s ability to be a good father is never called into question
Simone de Rochefort · Aug 10, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - There are those who would write Dream Daddy off as a parody. While it’s true that this is a comedy game, it is also one of the most earnest game experiences I’ve ever had. Beneath the puns, and the many My Chemical Romance jokes is a story about love, family, and masculinity. Where other dating simulators go for steamy, sexy fun, Dream Daddy has other priorities. Between the delightful little flourishes, this is a game that wants to make you think. And feel.
Jake Hills · Aug 02, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Although it's much too short, Dream Daddy is a fun game with lovable characters. Some of the minigames can be annoying, which away from the whole experience. The main thing Dream Daddy needs, however, is to be longer, so that you have more time to bond with the dad of your choosing.
Léon Othenin-Girard · Jul 27, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Dream Daddy is a surprisingly wholesome game about fatherhood, and about finding love again after loss. The well-written dialogue surprised me, and so did the fact that it is an incredibly heartwarming game. Rather than focusing on titillation, Dream Daddy has a cast of characters that are both real and diverse, even if it doesn’t always bring enough depth to the topics it tackles.
Elise Favis · Jul 27, 2017 Reviewed on PC - While it succeeds in being a happy, positive game, Dream Daddy's simulation doesn’t go far enough.
