  • Disgaea 6 Complete is a great game if you haven’t played the original game yet and want to experience all this title has to offer. The additional content is divided into small bite-sized story segments and battles, but they do add quite a bit of fun to the mix. That being said, if you already own the game on Switch when it was initially released, there is not that much point in buying the game again simply to play through the DLC. In short, if you’re a fan of the genre or the series, you’ll probably end up liking this one as well.

  • Disgaea 6 Complete is the perfect strategy RPG package for fans of the franchise and those looking to get their tactical fix. It won't convert those who have bounced off previous titles, but that was never the developer's intention in the first place. It's a little rough around the edges, but Disgaea 6 provides an immensely satisfying experience to its niche audience, who wouldn't have it any other way.

  • The auto battler is a game-changer for the post-game grind, making it easier to work through. And the transition from 2D to 3D has been done extremely well, which isn’t necessarily an easy thing to do. We’ve seen other franchises throughout the years struggle with making the jump.

  • Disgaea 6 Complete doesn’t really shake up the original’s formula, but it’s still a good time. Sure, character models look pretty bland and animate weirdly, but the humour and general atmosphere is still great. The only real problem with Disgaea 6 Complete is the lack of options in character classes.

The 3D models themselves weren’t too terrible despite me vastly preferring the 2D sprites but their limited animations made them look awful, especially during story cutscenes which took away from what small semblance of drama the VAs managed to portray given the terrible script.

  • The Disgaea formula advances another step in this entry and its story is one of the best in the series, but if you use the new functionality, you'll only play the cutscenes.

  • In the end, all that Disgaea 6 truly demands of a player is the willingness to learn its mechanics, an appreciation for its zany sense of humor, and a fondness for cute anime demons causing problems on purpose. As long as you can give it that, you’ll have a good time with this game.

  • Disgaea 6 isn't the total misfire fans were afraid it would be, and in spite of several stumbles, still comes out as a solid, compelling game that will hopefully serve as a foundation to better, more fleshed out games in the future.

  • Thanks to some efforts to streamline certain aspects of the game and the new auto-battle mode, however, it also serves as a great entry point for those keen to find out what the fuss is all about. It may not have the best story in the series, and some gameplay changes might not seem so favorable, but overall Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny continues the series’ legacy of providing enjoyable strategy gameplay alongside plenty of laughs.

  • Disgaea 6 is still a goofy and staggeringly intricate SRPG that will take hundreds of hours to see through to completion. However, this is easily the most streamlined and enjoyable entry in the series yet, as the developers have doubled down on everything that makes these games great and made some improvements, too. It can be intimidating to get into as a newcomer, and the performance is frequently disappointing, but we would still absolutely recommend that you add Disgaea 6 to your library.
