- Overall, my experience with Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- the Hinokami Chronicles was a pleasant one. I greatly enjoyed the story and I am looking forward to its continuation, though hopefully with more actual gameplay in place of cinematics. Hopefully the battle system will also get some more attention to spice it up a little. Aside from the boss fights, the combat itself was pretty easy compared to other fighters I’ve played.
Cassie Peterson · Jul 04, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is as good as it ever was. The Switch version doesn’t add anything for people who have the game on other systems. Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm fans, who might be excited for another similar game, should dial their content expectations way back. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba fans don’t need their teeny narrative summarized, the way Naruto fans might’ve wanted theirs. Merging these two franchises wasn’t the right decision. It would’ve been the definition of “a renter” in the 90s.
Stephan Adamus · Jun 23, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is that rare anime game that has something for everyone. Established fans of the franchise get to play through a fantastic adaptation of the anime. Newcomers get a fantastic introduction to the anime franchise that took the world by storm. And people who don’t care about that at all and just want a fun flashy arena fighter to play around with get that in spades. It’s the kind of game with a bunch of positives and not really any strong negatives. It plays great, has a decent amount of content, and looks absolutely stunning. And with DLC on the horizon, this is a game that’s only going to grow.
Thomas Medina · Jun 23, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles is a surprisingly well done port of a pretty good game. Given all that The Hinokami Chronicles ends up accomplishing, hopefully this heralds the start of many more high quality games based on the IP to come.
Pramath · Jun 17, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Demon Slayer: -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles is a very solid action game, presenting a gripping story and thrilling action combat alongside an art style that almost perfectly matches the popular anime. Though combat can sometimes feel a bit shallow and the performance isn’t always perfect, we’d still give this one a strong recommendation, even to those who don’t have any background with the anime or manga.
Mitch Vogel · Jun 13, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Demon Slayer - Kimetsu no Yaiba - The Hinokami Chronicles is an incredibly impressive anime-inspired fighter. Visually, it surpasses my expectations of how I imagined it would play on the Nintendo Switch. If you are a fan of the series, this is a must-buy.
Ted Hazell · Jun 11, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is both an enjoyable and amazing experience for those who are familiar with the series and for those who want to get into it for the first time. Even after I found myself 100% completing the game I still go back to it to play online as there’s just something so addicting with the flow of combat. Even though the roster may not be up to par with games such as the Ultimate Ninja Storm series we can expect DLC down the line to fill that gap and add another set of characters into the fray.
Varnell Harris · Nov 10, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Hinokami Chronicles is a great anime-based fighting game that’s only going to get better. Its story mode is a lot of fun to play through, thanks to the quality of the source material and CyberConnects2’s refined battle system that’s easy to pick up yet rewarding to master. Factor in the beautiful visuals and a decent amount of side content to engage in, and you have one of the best videogame adaptations of an anime we’ve ever had the pleasure of playing.
Richard Seagrave · Nov 05, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Overall I’m going to say this is a good game, but I found it lacking and kind of rushed out with so much potential. The fact that you can’t play most of the boss characters because they’re balanced around mechanics that again would fit more in an Action RPG game than the arena fighter this is.
Joseph O'Rick · Oct 30, 2021 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - For fans of the source material or just arena fighters in general, Demon Slayer’s incredible combat and substantial story mode make this a must-play. Sure, the exploration sections may disrupt the pacing somewhat, and the online functionality could use some patching, but these issues don’t detract too much from the stellar foundation which CyberConnect2 has put in place.
