- In the end, Demon Gaze has some interesting dungeon-crawling ideas mixed in with eyeroll-worthy fanservice, a forgettable narrative, annoying soundtrack, and some displeasing artwork. If dungeon crawlers are something you can’t get enough of, Demon Gaze is probably a game you can enjoy. Otherwise it’s a little more difficult to recommend. Some of the ideas behind demons and equipment were interesting, but they can’t hold up the rest of the game on their own.
Adam Vitale · May 30, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - While elements are bland and the story feels heavily padded, to say that Demon Gaze feels half-assed would assume that it's trying to be more than it is, a grindfest that rewards players with 2D titillation and innuendo. It does what it does fairly well, but it's also profoundly average. Nothing is ventured and nothing gained in any part of its design.
Blake Peterson · May 12, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - You'll have to have plenty of patience and a pretty good imagination to get the most out of Demon Gaze. The dungeon crawling is great and the NPC interactions outside of the dungeons are fun, but it's insanely challenging (even on the easiest setting) and the high level of repetition and mostly static presentation could get to you after some time.
Dale North · May 12, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Despite its imperfections, an array of handy gameplay mechanics coupled with a colourful cast of characters provides just enough intrigue to justify the thirty-or-so hours that you'll spend level grinding your way through this adventure. Oh, and Hatsune Miku fans, did we mention that there's a vocaloid soundtrack?
Katy Ellis · May 07, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - A more extensive description for each skill and stat point would’ve been greatly appreciated. Demon Gaze proudly treads on proven grounds with a few twists of its own, and fans of the genre will surely enjoy their adventure as the bane of all demons.
Jae Lee · Apr 30, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Demon Gaze is colorful, brash, and spunky, but it's little more than a wonky journey through dungeon after forgettable dungeon. If it's a grind you're looking for, you can do far better than the mediocrity of becoming a Demon Gazer.
Brittany Vincent · Apr 23, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Demon Gaze is the kind of title that only a particular group of players will appreciate. It requires an appreciation for death via random number generator, patience for the grind needed to progress, and tolerance for the game's cringe-inducing attempts to titillate.
Becky Cunningham · Apr 23, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - A fun, grind-heavy dungeon crawler that shows off some wonderful anime designs. It is an easy pickup for most RPG fans, but especially for those looking for an old-school Wizardry experience.
Dane Smith · Apr 23, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - However, if you just give it a shot, the game works wonders on the Vita and is perfect to play in little spurts as you crawl through a dungeon while sitting in line at the doctor. As someone who typically hates dungeon crawling RPGs, I found myself engrossed in improving my party and equipment.
Cameron Teague · Apr 22, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Visually, everything's done with mostly static images and only the vaguest sense of occasional animation. The anime designs are fantastic though, with monsters especially boasting unique and fascinating appearances. Worthy of special attention is the soundtrack, since there is a wonderful selection of music on offer. Even as I type this, the harmonies of the battle theme ring in my head.
