Critic Reviews
- Death Howl is a haunting and demanding Soulslike deckbuilder that rewards patience, adaptability, and strategic thinking across a 26-hour journey on Switch.
Azario Lopez · Mar 02, 2026 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Verdict 8 10 0 1 Death Howl is an excellent and original soulslike deckbuilder, that's only mired by its pacing. Progression is sluggish, and the combat is so unforgiving that these challenges may dissuade some players.
· Feb 24, 2026 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Death Howl blends tactical grid combat with deep deck customization inside a myth soaked world shaped by loss. Each encounter feels like a carefully constructed puzzle where preparation and positioning matter as much as raw power.
· Feb 23, 2026 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Death Howl has finally arrived on consoles, and I got to play it early on Switch. Here's how the game runs on console & what to expect.
· Feb 19, 2026 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - After becoming a cult classic on PC, strategy game Death Howl mixes elements of Soulslikes with turn-based battles, in this demanding but rewarding new console release.
· Feb 19, 2026 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - To grieve is human
Joey Caplan · Jan 09, 2026 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Death Howl is cohesive and well-crafted. The game’s dour tone complements its surreal art style and soundtrack. Its myriad genres coalesce into consistently engaging combat and tactics. But most of all, across story and gameplay, Ro’s journey taught me to embrace obstacles to overcome them. Having reached its end, it’s a journey I’m glad to have taken.
Charles Harte · Jan 05, 2026 Reviewed on PC - The struggle in Death Howl is real, both in terms of its story and challenge, and it feels meaningful and haunting.
Jenni Lada · Dec 25, 2025 Reviewed on PCRead full review - 81 Read our review policy Death Howl The deckbuilder and the soulslike accommodate each other well, even if Death Howl is initially too busy killing you to show its best hand.
Abbie Stone · Dec 19, 2025 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Death Howl seems to have taken the heart of turn-based grid-based strategy games (think Into the Breach), and the deck building of modern indie classics (think Inscryption) and paired their gameplay strengths with a unique story.
