- In 2016, Dead Rising is fantastic nostalgic trip that benefits from the higher resolution, frame rate and graphical options greatly, despite the overall textures and models not being as magical as they once were. While the opening parts can be a slog to get through, and this is before the innovation of combo weapons, cutting through hordes of undead is still incredibly satisfying, not to mention fighting the creative psychopath bosses.
Adam Beck · Sep 13, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - As someone who doesn't mind playing games over and over until I perfect them, I like the idea of adding some form of urgency, and feel like in most sessions I have ample time to meander without missing out on much. By that same token I also prefer the leniency of the sequels, and enjoy replaying them more often. It's a give and take, but Dead Rising is worth the squeeze and still holds up after all this time.
Chris Carter · Sep 13, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - The save system which has been under scrutiny, and rightfully so, is a bit too unreasonable for my tastes. I understand why the developers implemented this kind of system; after all, I can't imagine how many extra hours this game has squeezed out of me because of it. If anything, they should have at least included more save points as they are few and far between and often completely out of the way. Even with its problems, Dead Rising is a ton of fun to play, offers a respectable narrative, and come on, you can use a lawnmower for cryin' out load.
Greg Vallentin · Sep 06, 2006 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The game, like most 360 titles has in-game Dolby digital and it sounds great. The sound effects are appropriately wet and gooey, while the voice acting is on par for the material. I thought everything matched up nicely for the situation and Frank is prone to some colorful language when things get messy (and they do, a lot) so make sure the young ones are out of the room.
jkdmedia · Aug 20, 2006 Reviewed on X360Read full review - After having played through Dead Rising I have come to look at it as a companion piece to Capcom's already established zombie franchise Resident Evil. Many would say that the two don't have much in common, and they would be right. But the first time you enter an entire room of zombies and weave between them like they were standing still, as in many cases they actually will be, you will be instantly reminded of the survival-horror franchise that defined its genre.
Patrick Evans · Aug 08, 2006 Reviewed on X360Read full review - It's this severe push for gamers to be determined and persistent enough to explore every nook and cranny in Dead Rising that makes it either a splendid, geeky Pandora's Box full of unrelenting challenge and rewards or controller-smashingly difficult because of its hardcore mentality. If you've got the urge to save the world from a zombie invasion and won't let things like a wonderfully skewed difficulty level or some stressful multi-tasking stop you - Capcom's got your Valentine in Dead Rising.
Francesca Reyes · Aug 08, 2006 Reviewed on X360Read full review - While not everything Dead Rising takes a stab at works to its benefit, it's still one of the more unique and enjoyable games on the Xbox 360. There aren't many games that give you the level of pure, bizarre variety that this game does, and its splendidly brutal yet entirely silly brand of action is too much fun to ignore. Some people are undoubtedly going to be severely put off by the constant battle between the game structure and save system, but no amount of structural missteps manage to derail this ride.
Alex Navarro · Aug 07, 2006 Reviewed on X360Read full review - With a better save system, more intelligent NPCs, a more forgiving story progression, and tighter controls, Dead Rising could have been even more fun than it already is. Even despite those issues, after several times through it's impossible to deny the appeal inherent in slaughtering Willamette's zombified shoppers. Now if only there was a cooperative mode. We suppose we'll have to wait for the sequel, if Capcom decides to make one. As it stands, Dead Rising is one of the more unique and entertaining titles on the Xbox 360.
Charles Onyett · Aug 07, 2006 Reviewed on X360Read full review - It’s definitely a flawed game by today’s standards, but I don’t want to knock a remaster for sticking to its roots and not bloating itself with unnecessary changes which may or may not upset hardcore Dead Rising fans like myself. You’re ultimately getting a largely similar experience to the one everyone else got ten years ago.
Oliver Smith · Oct 17, 2016 Reviewed on PC - You essentially get the full original experience with an improved framerate and resolution, just be prepared to put up with some very “Capcom” design choices. I honestly wish Capcom had made a little bit more effort with this, Dead Rising is a great series that feels bogged down by how far the industry has progressed.
