  • For those that missed out on this, I would still recommend that you give Dead Nation a play. The game offers hours of fun and an action-arcade experience with replayability both in single player and with a partner as you attempt to tackle the harder difficulty levels and boost your position on the leaderboard.

  • Despite all of its issues, Dead Nation isn’t a bad game. There are some really nice ideas here, but they’ve been done over and over since the title’s original PS3 release in 2010. The Vita version just exacerbates old problems, and the fact that you can pick up an edition on the PS4 with all of the bells and whistles on top makes this portable outing feel a little bit tired.

Dead Nation on PlayStation 4 is just as great as it is on PlayStation 3. It's still eerie, difficult, and a ton of fun to play, whether online with your friends or on your own in a dimly-lit room. The extras thrown in to the Apocalypse Edition are just icing on an already delicious cake; but without these perks, Dead Nation is still one of PSN's stronger, more addictive games.

  • Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition doesn’t solve the core gunplay issues that plagued the release’s original outing, but this is still a fine upgrade for those merely looking for some rotten flesh to fire at. Once again, the survival horror aspects feel at odds with the arcade-inspired gameplay, but the new social features just about justify a return to this resurrected digital download.

  • Housemarque's Dead Nation: Apocalypse Edition harbours all the addictive pick-up-and-play qualities synonymous with everyone's favourite PS4 indie developer - providing a thrilling zombie romp, with fast, fluid mechanics and controls. And while it may not strain the PlayStation 4's considerable capabilities by any stretch, the inclusion of some new leaderboard-based modes coupled with the innovative streaming feature make this a welcome addition to the PS4 indie roster.

  • At least Dead Nation looks great. That lighting that impacted the quality of the action for me does look nice and moody, and there are some great physics that send zombie bodies flying right at the camera when you set off a big explosion. But it doesn't matter how slick a game like this looks if the action isn't on point.

  • The $14.99 price point still feels too high. Nevertheless, your journey in Dead Nation is an undeniably satisfying one, rich with bloody-good fun and dripping with atmosphere. You may think you've shot enough zombies to last yourself a lifetime, but Dead Nation offers so much morbidly lively action that it would be a shame to pass it up.

  • Dead Nation is so densely packed, that the exhaustion it causes is totally understandable. The experience can be compared to eating a big meal, or getting a good workout: you'll enjoy it, but you might not want to come back for more right away. I found myself taking a break after every one or two levels when my nerves became too frayed to continue.

  • Dead Nation is a good arcade-style game for fans of the zombie franchise. Though the controls take a little getting used to and the gameplay suffers from being bland at times, the game makes for a very good online or local multiplayer title if you can find a friend to play with you.

The upgrades and loot are nice touches that make Dead Nation a deeper experience than most of its twin-stick zombie shooters brethren, but it still feels like just another zombie shooter in the end. My memories are a mix of having a ball trying to survive and being ready to quit the game once and for all in frustration.
