While there's no hiding the true age of Darkstalkers 3 and Night Warriors, the Darkstalkers Resurrection package serves them faithfully and backs them up with an impressively executed online experience. Fighting vets who prefer exacting mechanics will get more mileage out these games, but there's fun to be had here for beginners too, provided they aren't looking for 200+ hit combos that can be learned in 20 minutes. Ultimately, it's the memorable cast of misfit monsters that makes Resurrection so enjoyable, whether you grew up in the arcades with them or not.

  • Darkstalkers Resurrection is a solid package, shining a well-deserved spotlight on the dusty franchise, and allowing old fans and newcomers alike to spend quality time with the unforgettable cast. Word on the street is that the compilation is being used to gauge interest in a franchise revival, so don’t miss out – it’s two enjoyable, classic games that could lead to a brand new one. And that’s hard to say no to.

  • Darkstalkers Resurrection isn't just a re-release of two classic fighting games, it also stands as the best example to date of how to revive games from the 1990s on modern gaming hardware. If you have any interest in virtual fisticuffs, buy Darkstalkers Resurrection. Even if you don't, I recommend buying the game to support Capcom's efforts to revive classic games in a proper, respectful fashion.

  • Capcom has given us two excellent titles in Darkstalkers Resurrection that fighting game fans will absolutely love. The Darkstalkers series is criminally overlooked when discussing the best 2D fighting games. Resurrection attempts to fix this misconception by delivering the best looking versions of these two arcade classics. Beautiful visuals, solid fighting mechanics, flawless online play, and a unique setting make Darkstalkers Resurrection a must-play for Street Fighter buffs and fans of fighters in general. Now just make Darkstalkers 4 already!

  • There are a solid amount of extras to unlock and utilize here too: online multiplayer with both local and ranked matches (with up to 8-player tournaments), a sizable amount of concept art and classic videos to unlock, and the ability to register your YouTube account in order to upload videos of your matches. On top of that, beyond the slight upgrade touches so they look good in HD, the games appear to be completely untouched. The flow of the games is beautiful and as detailed as I remember, with top-notch animation that even the classic Street Fighter titles can't quite match up to.

  • Although the visuals deserved a much larger upgrade than a lazy filter, the fact of the matter is, the engine still holds up amazingly well, and the netcode is near perfect. If you've always been curious about this franchise, now is the time to take the plunge -- if you're a fan of old-school 2D fighters, you won't be disappointed.

  • The list of extras in Resurrection goes on and on. Matches can be uploaded to YouTube, an entire gallery of concept art is available to unlock, and a variety of interesting viewing options--including a classic arcade cabinet. In addition to bringing two outstanding games back into the spotlight, Darkstalkers Resurrection boasts a host of practical content that enhances the experience. One only hopes that all classic fighters can one day receive such loving treatment.

  • It's a classic business ploy to drum up sales, of course, but this game is more than capable of standing on its own merit. If you're a recent arcade stick convert who missed out on the Halloween antics the first time around, or just a seasoned fighter fan who appreciates it when each frame and pixel is handled with the utmost care, then Resurrection is no less than the definitive Darkstalkers experience.
