- At the end of the day, you just have to ask yourself being able to kick back in your recliner and play one of the most frustrating games ever created on a convenient pocket-sized console is something you want to do. To me, it’s the perfect afternoon. The Switch version may not have all the pretty bells and whistles that you find on its big brother consoles or the PC but it fulfills a sense of nostalgia for the original that the others didn’t.
Robert Baddeley · Nov 07, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - With Dark Souls Remastered you should know exactly what you are getting; a full fat port of a revered and classic game with all of the extra bells and whistles the little console can afford. You may have already picked this remaster up on another platform, and if you have then you may want to side step this release. But if you missed it, or if taking Lordran with you in your bag is too appealing to turn down, then follow the flame and praise the sun.
John Whitehouse · Oct 30, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Bear in mind that this game is only worth the investment if you want to play it on-the-go, as this is easily the least “remastered” version of Dark Souls Remastered out there. If you want to play a portable Dark Souls, go for it. If you want to praise the sun inside your bedroom, pick any other version instead.
Leo Faria · Oct 22, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - While it isn’t without some notable and completely unnecessary problems, the Switch version of Dark Souls Remastered is still a great way to experience one of the best games ever released. The ability to play the game wherever and whenever is wonderful, and it’s nice to have this improvement on the original PlayStation 3/Xbox 360 release to contrast the more drastic overhaul the other platforms received.
Mollie L Patterson · Oct 22, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Just make sure you don’t make faces and noises (like I did) when playing it in public spaces, although I caught some people looking at my Switch with great interest while I played on my way to work. The bottom line, I approve and recommend Dark Souls on Nintendo Switch for old and new players. It has perspective, charm and really looks fantastic.
Anna Gard · Oct 19, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The Switch version doesn’t change that experience. It does run extremely well on the system, and it looks pretty darn good. The failure to adhere to Nintendo button conventions isn’t exactly exclusive to Dark Souls: Remastered either, but it doesn’t make it any less of an annoyance. Other than that, there isn’t much else going wrong.
Derek C. Miller · Oct 19, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - To this day, Dark Souls remains a watershed moment for the action-RPG genre. Getting to re-experience many of the game's most nerve-wracking and iconic moments can be satisfying in its own right, but coupled with the Switch's flexible playstyle, this equally haunting and triumphant game becomes an even more involved journey.
Alessandro Fillari · Oct 19, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - With all that said, there’s a reason why Dark Souls has become such a massive influence in the games industry. Even The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild tears a length of parchment from the Dark Souls scroll with its approach to survival – a turn of the table in that regard. The be all and end all is that the hype, for me at least, is real. As was the kaleidoscope of emotions that came with it. I may have missed the boat back in 2011, but I sure am glad to have had the chance to experience this incredible journey for the first time on the Nintendo Switch.
Darren Palma · Oct 18, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - While bare-bones on the surface, Dark Souls Remastered is one of the best games of the last 20 years running better than it ever has. New players will find all of the mood, challenge, and tension of the original, and returning vets are given beefier online options and minor tweaks to small details. More importantly, it keeps one of the medium’s best games easily accessible and readily available.
John Learned · Oct 18, 2018 Reviewed on - Luckily, the individual stories you learn about the crew during your investigations – their betrayals, ambitions, loves – are enticing enough on their own to make up for the deficit. This mixed quality of storytelling doesn’t stop the experience from highlighting its other strengths; Return Of Obra Dinn is a surprisingly hardcore detective title with a surreal bite, and one that shouldn’t be missed by anyone who loves a great challenge.
