- Ashes of Ariandel is a good time for those looking to give themselves an excuse to boot up Dark Souls 3 again, as if that is even necessary. It has some great new enemies and a cool location to explore. Those looking for new PVP gameplay will find it here, but overall the package is solid and not extraordinary.
Justin Celani · Oct 25, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Really, Dark Souls III is everything you'd expect from a Dark Souls game. It's dark, it's rather difficult, and it's got everything a dark fantasy fan could hope for. Still, despite everything, I couldn't help but feel slightly annoyed, as while Dark Souls III is great, it can't escape the feeling of being "just another Dark Souls game." But still, I'd take just another Dark Souls over most games any day of the week.
Perry Ruhland · Apr 25, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Dark Souls III improves on its predecessors in nearly every way, making for the most masterfully-crafted, tautly-paced entry in the series. The combat is faster and more flexible, the world design is complex but never bloated, and the atmospheric presentation makes you feel like you're completely engulfed in the unsettling sights and sounds of this volatile fantasy world. Should this truly be the last time we seek respite in the warm glow of a bonfire, we can rest easy knowing Dark Souls III is a deserving and satisfying end to a phenomenal series.
Dave Letcavage · Apr 16, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - We have the zenith of the Souls formula, and that is mostly a good thing. Dark Souls 3 is the most elegant distillation of the “demanding but not impossible” style first put forth in Demon’s Souls. And the return of the mana bar brings the greatest degree of play-style experimentation the series has had. Add to that From’s finally stable-at-launch multiplayer servers, and Dark Souls 3 is the most complete feeling Souls experience in the franchise.
Gavin Greene · Apr 14, 2016 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - From Software's amazing streak continues with Dark Souls III, which amounts to the finest game in the series. Returning players will find everything they've grown to love in a much better form, while newbies will be treated to the most accessible Souls to date.
Bob Mackey · Apr 13, 2016 Reviewed on PC - While it?s still impossible on a personal level for me to admit that any of Dark Souls? siblings could better it, when taken as a whole, complete experience, Dark Souls III may be the best chapter of the Souls series that From Software has crafted. A fitting way to end, if that will indeed be the fate of the franchise.
Mollie L Patterson · Apr 12, 2016 Reviewed onRead full review - If you’ve stuck it out this far (and especially if you actually care about the world and lore of Dark Souls), Dark Souls 3 will prove to be a satisfying coda to your time with the series. I can’t wait until the community goes into full lore-speculation and secret-finding modes. If Dark Souls needed to end--and all signs point to "Yes, it did"--I’m glad it was able to do so with such singular focus and form.
Austin Walker · Apr 12, 2016 Reviewed on PC, PS4, XB1Read full review - Dark Souls 3 is a successful mechanical and thematic culmination of the series, skillfully blending together the best elements from each entry for an excellent series finale, even if it isn't the freshest feeling experience. There's of course minor areas of design that don't stand quite as tall as the rest of the game and this console port has lesser but still acceptable performance compared to the PC version, but Dark Souls 3 remains excellent and comes highly recommended even with its minor performance caveats on console.
Alex Donaldson · Apr 12, 2016 Reviewed onRead full review - Dark Souls 3 isn’t here to redesign the formula or to reimagine the way the Souls games play. Instead, it’s refined the game style that FromSoftware have been experimenting with since Demon’s Souls and it honestly feels like they’ve found the perfect balance between the style of each games.
Jacques Waugh · Apr 11, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Ultimately, Dark Souls III is an incredible game within its niche, even if I cannot honestly advise just everyone to get it: despite the efforts made as a limited genuflection to some sort of accessibility, purchasing and facing the challenge of a Souls game has to be a conscious choice made by gamers that don’t mind and actually enjoy having the most beautiful mistress whip the skin off their backs again, and again, and again.
