- The occasional variety of a boss battle or vehicle sequence doesn't break things up enough to make the campaign an interesting one, either. Between the dreary action, the sluggish movement speed, and the seemingly tacked-on multiplayer, you'll probably want to pass on the whole thing.
Jeff Gerstmann · Apr 25, 2008 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Dark Sector's had a long development cycle and at times we were more than a little worried about how it'd turn out, but Digital Extreme's debut next-gen release has been well worth the wait. It's not going to set the world alight like Gears of War and it doesn't revolutionise survival horror like Resident Evil 4, but its thrilling combat and sensational visuals make it well worth adding to your collection.
Tom Orry · Apr 03, 2008 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Overall, it's a bruising fast-paced action shooter with some grim horror atmospherics and decent enemy AI
OXM Staff · Apr 03, 2008 Reviewed on X360 - Dark Sector goes for gore and glory, but does better spattering blood than it does applying polish
Game Trailers · Mar 28, 2008 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - Dark Sector isn't the next Gears of War, and it isn't a game that you should go into looking for a compelling story. You could certainly do a lot worse if you're looking for 10 to 12 hours of single-player action and some multiplayer kicks, though.
Justin Calvert · Mar 26, 2008 Reviewed on PC, PS3, X360Read full review - It certainly isn’t close to perfect -- the melee is kind of wonky and disappointingly underdeveloped, it suffers from a fair bit of repetition, and the enemy A.I. is only somewhat smarter than the girls on Flavor of Love. But the infected powers, the occasionally dazzling visuals, and Michael Rosenbaum’s sweet, sweet voice definitely make the game worth a look if you’re a fan of the genre.
Nick Chester · Mar 26, 2008 Reviewed on X360Read full review - This game is incredibly formulaic, but for some reason it is incredibly fun to play. The online modes are extremely simple and forgettable, but you will definitely have fun during the single player story mode.
Amanda L. Kondolojy · Mar 25, 2008 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Dark Sector's fun. Hearing guards scream for help just before they take a glaive to the face, marching around in this Metal Gear-looking Jackal tank while rocketing bad guys into the air and wielding a pimped-out shotgun make the experience something any action fan can get behind.
GREG MILLER · Mar 25, 2008 Reviewed on PC, PS3Read full review - If you're desperate for something new to play, then rent this over the weekend and you'll have breezed through it by Monday, having been moderately distracted for most of the time. The glaive is fun, for a bit, so there's always that as well. Just don't be surprised if in six months time you've forgotten you ever played it.
Dan Whitehead · Apr 04, 2008 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Overall, Dark Sector is a passable first try. For a new action title, it has the potential to pick up a franchise. There are many subtleties to the game which make it an immersive experience; be it the exclusion of any HUD in a 3rd person perspective and a great graphical prowess, or markers on your character’s arm telling you when your powers are available for use.
