- Imitation is an open invitation for comparison, and while it's mostly competent from a technical perspective, it's all very rote. Since God of War is a PlayStation 3 exclusive, I suppose there's some merit to the way Dante's Inferno exposes this very specific style of character-based action game on the Xbox 360, but it's clearly an imitation, and I never got the sense that the game aspired to much beyond simple reproduction.
Ryan Davis · Feb 27, 2010 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Overall, the game is a great experience for those that enjoy action/adventure titles. Many may knock it as a hack-and-slash title, but there are some pretty deadly combos that players can come up with. The story is interesting and makes you wonder what is coming next. Probably the best part of the game is the look and feel of the title. The environment is top notch–Visceral Games has done a phenomenal job of showing what it would be like to venture through the nine circles of Hell.
Joseph Peterson · Feb 13, 2010 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - For a game that so consciously borrows from the God Of War franchise, Dante's Inferno has its pacing all wrong. It simply lacks the variety that makes Sony Santa Monica's franchise such a hit. The adequate mechanics and solid art direction may tide you over until March; but Dante sure ain't stealing Kratos' crown anytime soon.
Sammy Barker · Feb 09, 2010 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - The developers already have part of the church against them because of their representation of hell! The good news is, these issues will certainly not stop EA from scoring major sales figures, and I hope it doesn't stop you from playing it either, because good games are there to be played… from beginning to end! Without a doubt, this is one you shouldn't miss.
Maria Montoro · Feb 09, 2010 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - Dante's Inferno does possess virtues that are worth appreciating, but this troubled action game has plenty of sins to confess. As you struggle through the hell that's laid out before you, you'll find your progress hindered by frustration and needless repetition rather than legitimate challenge. While it goes through many of the same motions perfected by the best games in its genre, Dante's Inferno never reaches their lofty heights.
Game Trailers · Feb 08, 2010 Reviewed on X360 - When it comes down to it, you're going to get the best Dante's Inferno experience when you let go. Let go of the comparisons. Let go of your contempt for what it may or may not do for and to the source material. Just let go and have fun. You're not going to find a wholly original gameplay experience with Dante's Inferno, but that doesn't mean it's not a hell of an entertaining package -- it's one that fans of action shouldn't miss.
Nick Chester · Feb 05, 2010 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - It's a shame the entirety of Dante's Inferno couldn't match the frenetic pacing and horrific imagination found in the beginning of your adventure because it could have been a worthwhile alternative to the excellent God of War series. But most of the game falls far short of its impressive beginning, which results in a repetitive and uninspired adventure that loses steam long before you reach the bitter end. Dante's Inferno is certainly fun during those hectic first few hours, but there is little reason to play beyond those parts.
Tom Mc Shea · Feb 05, 2010 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - But in the wider context, Dante’s Inferno fails to rise above its peers, the punishment for which is not damnation, merely a place in limbo
Edge Staff · Feb 05, 2010 Reviewed on PS3 - Dante’s Inferno features some interesting aspects (like its combat), but early innovation loses out to repetition. The game’s biggest strength – Visceral’s recreation of hell – wanes during the second half. Some entertaining unlockable content adds to the replayability, but for most gamers, Inferno doesn’t have enough new ideas to warrant a return trip through hell.
Jeff Marchiafava · Feb 04, 2010 Reviewed on PS3, X360 - Visceral Games has battled against the odds to deliver an excellent hack 'n' slash that action junkies would be wise to take a look at. Based on what we've seen of God of War 3, Dante should be thankful he's got a month in the limelight, but he certainly deserves it. With some impressive combat mechanics, an excellent game world, some of the most disturbing enemies ever seen and tight production values, Dante's Inferno delivers the goods.
