- Danganronpa is a fun and weird game that I enjoyed my time with once it was actually playable. It's characters may be a little flat and problematic, and the game's pacing a bit strange, but this weirdness ended up enhancing the appeal for me, and I was happy to have a dense, narrative-focused game to chew through on iOS. This port is still not perfect, but at least now there’s little getting in the way of you completing it.
Campbell Bird · Jul 22, 2020 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Despite those minor blemishes, Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition on iOS is now the version of the game I will recommend to newcomers to the series. It was already a must play for anyone looking for a good story and great music and it is more accessible than ever before thanks to iOS and Android releases of such a high quality. Even if you try and rush through it (which I wouldn’t recommend), you will find yourself enthralled for over 20 hours here. I can’t wait for Danganronpa 2: Goodbye Despair to arrive because it is my favourite of the trilogy. Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc Anniversary Edition is well worth your time.
Mikhail Madnani · Jun 01, 2020 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - Danganronpa is one of the best story-driven games on PC. The scarcity of interaction, vast quantities of text, and glacial pace will turn a lot of people off, but the story is so compelling that I barely noticed that all I was doing was clicking through lines of dialogue. Monokuma is a deliciously evil villain and the crimes are brilliantly constructed.
Andy Kelly · Feb 18, 2016 Reviewed on PCRead full review - As far as entry points go, Danganronpa is a great one, even if 999 and VLR are better games. If you like what you see here, more strangeness awaits you. Danganropa's tongue-twisting sci-fi (or is it?) narrative will have you constantly second guessing, and while the game-y parts aren't its strongest point, they work well enough.
Patrick Klepek · Mar 11, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Whether or not a player will like DanganRonpa hinges almost entirely on how well they connect with both the story and its characters. If you can’t get behind the Anime-like over-dramatisation and occasional bit of weirdness, chances are you’ll switch off within five minutes. For those who have the patience, however, you’ll be hard-pressed to find a visual novel as consistent on PlayStation Vita.
Jim Hargreaves · Feb 25, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Danganronpa is, hands-down, one of the strangest games I've ever played — and yet also one of the most enjoyable and thought-provoking. It plays with ideas I rarely get to explore in games: the desperation that drives people to kill, how quickly you'll betray your friends, loss and despair. I can't say that Danganronpa makes murder fun — but it weaves gripping gameplay and storytelling with an off-beat cast in a way that's absolutely to die for.
Megan Farokhmanesh · Feb 24, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - This is a great little game that has learned lessons from the most celebrated visual novels and adventure games out there, combining the best of the best to create a thoroughly rewarding murder mystery. It can be a bit too ponderous at times, and some of its investigations are more busy work than detective work, but the strength of the writing carries it forward. In any case, you won't find many more surprising games on your PS Vita this year.
Jim Sterling · Feb 19, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Overall, Danganronpa is a really fun game with a well told story full of mystery and revelations. It’s not the most impactful or memorable of tales, but it is well put together and very entertaining. The story does get a bit too ridiculous sometimes, but the excellent trials more than make up for this. This all adds up to a great game that will keep you glued to your vita for hours on end.
Stephen Gillespie · Feb 17, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - This is the game you'll struggle to put down to eat, play every spare minute in the lunch room at work and lose at least a day of your life to in total. Danganronpa is an addictive look into one of everyone's nightmares - being trapped in their school with murderers - and it does so with the finesse of a magician. You may think you know what you're seeing or what's going on - but you're wrong... and that's part of what makes this game amazing.
Kyle Wakeling · Feb 13, 2014 Reviewed on VitaRead full review - Danganronpa has the look, sound, characters and story for a very interesting mystery-horror game. If you enjoy horror, particularly the off-kilter brand of horror at which Japanese creators tend to excel, you should definitely give the game a spin.
