- At its best, Cult of the Lamb is a smart balancing act of dungeon crawling and base building that has just enough meat on the bones to keep the game from becoming stale. The same could be said of its style, a mixture of overly cutesy characters against the backdrop of a downright evil, darkness stained world that holds a vein of morbid humor throughout. It’s that coagulation that makes the experience so unique, if a little shallow. That said, the Switch version is so tainted by the oppressively bad technical performance that it tanks the entire experience.
Joel A. DeWitte · Nov 05, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Cult of the Lamb does an excellent job of combining two distinctly different genres into an absolutely fun experience. It helps that both genres are presented in their simplest form, rather than aiming for more advanced users with a bevy of options, so the mashup isn't so overwhelming.
Cody Medellin · Sep 14, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Cult of the Lamb might not have the most complex systems, but it has a magnitude of quick and fun activities for you to engage in, and everything fits together wonderfully. The management system can feel a little frustrating at first while you learn the ropes, and there were many times when I just wanted to get back to the frantic action of the dungeon diving portion, but once you understand the best ways to proceed you’ll have a ton of fun just like I did.
Jake Plant · Sep 09, 2022 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Cult of the Lamb is a charming but disturbing project that provides an interesting take on the roguelike genre that combines dungeon delving with city managing in a single title, generously flavored with humor.
Taoshi · Sep 08, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Cult of the Lamb is the evil-worshipping, cult-building, god-slaying video game with a perfect creepy-cute aesthetic that I never knew that I wanted—and I’m so incredibly glad that it exists.
Kenny McKee · Aug 28, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - It refuses to go for simple concepts like “drinking the kool-aid” to build faith and actually makes each character in the cult have their likes and dislikes and forces the player to figure out the best way to deal with the cult as a whole so as to not lose faith in the player. The art and sound design just bring this whole game together into one of the best games I’ve played this year.
Anthony Mann · Aug 25, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The level of detail in Cult of the Lamb is surprisingly deep. The combination of RPG-lite style adventuring and the management of your followers ensure that the game is never stale. With each run through a dungeon different from the previous run, gamers will encounter a range of enemies.
William Thompson · Aug 25, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Cult of the Lamb is a unique game in a world full of roguelikes, mashed together with a management sim that is oh-so-much fun. The cutesy graphics help tone it down, but don’t be mistaken – this is a dark game at times; it’s also a must-play title if you’re looking for something a little different.
Jemma Casson · Aug 22, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - They start to jump or plunge toward you, but no mind-blowing changes in the enemy variety or AI simply because you have a limited set of movements yourself. Most of the challenge depends on randomizers, which are sometimes inflicted by your enemies on your followers or the map structure, or the ones you choose yourself from inside or outside the dungeon.
Mohamed Hassan · Aug 18, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Cult of the Lamb proves to be a remarkably fresh take on the roguelite genre, not just in its goofy and creepy aesthetic, but in its smart blending of action and survival mechanics. Gameplay remains tense without ever feeling like it’s unfair and a steady stream of unlockables and collectables ensures that your efforts are always rewarded.
