- Crown Trick is a rather unique title that combines both the stress and fun of a Roguelite game with the calm and slower gameplay of a Turn-Based title. Overall the graphics are really great and set the proper atmosphere for this nightmare-infused adventure. The sounds effects are decent and the background music is likable even after long gaming sessions. As the game is very varied in combat, collecting items, and having more and more familiars to summon, you’ll be able to spend a lot of evenings trying to escape from the Nightmare Realm.
MC_JP · Oct 11, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - There is only ever a dull moment when the player gets very, very unlucky. Otherwise, the game is a revolving door of “wow” encounters, colorful combat, and epic loot drops. It’s the amalgamation of turn-based RPGs, Chess, and dungeon crawlers in one erratic rogue-lite package. So if you want to exercise that brain matter, feel free to give this experience a go.
Mario Brash · Sep 12, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Crown Trick warrants a play from all Roguelike or turn based games, a worthy challenge with a change in pace from a typical one life only game. A truly joyful movement-based game with amazing art and combat depth, try it out if you’re a part of Game Pass day one.
Ross Hodge · Sep 07, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Overall, Crown Trick is a fun experience that you can enjoy playing through again and again once you get over the tricky learning curve and ingratiate yourself with the mechanics, you’ll have yourself a grand old time.
Ray Remigio · Sep 07, 2021 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Despite these drawbacks, Crown Trick very quickly dug its claws into us. While it may not be everyone and isn't as approachable as other recent attempts at the genre, it's unashamedly challenging in all the right ways. It has a beautiful art style, a fantastic soundtrack, complex gameplay and an addictive loop that will make you want to have just 'one more go'. It's a perfect Xbox Game Pass title and a fantastic game in its own right.
Daniel Hollis · Sep 07, 2021 Reviewed on Series X|S, XB1Read full review - Crown Trick is a game that will pass many by due to its art style and because it isn’t a huge studio game, but Team 17 and developer NEXT have created a charming and fun game that will challenge and delight you in equal measure.
Lynley James · Dec 10, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Crown Trick is a great and fun game. It surely isn’t an easy game that you can beat swiftly. Depending on how good you are at strategy it might take you quite long to even advance to the next day. The game has quite a few different environments, enemies, and even bosses so even if you need to replay certain parts over and over, you won’t get bored of looking at the same thing. There are also different play styles, thanks to the different weapons that have different ranges, and the different abilities because of the familiars.
Theotakutem · Nov 22, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Anyone who likes dungeon crawlers will find a lot to like if they stick with it, I just fear that far too many players won’t get to explore just how good this game is once you find your footing. Other games in the genre are learning how to welcome new players and ramp them up to what the game requires of them and in this area, Crown Trick is lacking. I hope with time and patches it can get there because the core of the game is absolutely worth your time.
Andrew Thornton · Oct 27, 2020 Reviewed on Switch - Crown Trick is a stylish and strategic roguelite that slows the usually frenetic pace of its genre down and introduces some rhythmic turn-based battling to proceedings. Elle's ability to blink around arenas, combined with the plethora of powers she gains from the many weapons, relics and familiars she encounters along the way, also adds plenty of variety and flexibility to the runs you'll make here.
PJ O'Reilly · Oct 21, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - You’ll have to leave any run-and-gun sensibilities at the door when you jump into Crown Trick; it’s a game about thoughtful manoeuvres and carefully-planned attacks. But it results in combat that’s extremely rewarding, and a challenge that’s a lot of fun to take on.
