- Crackdown is a game that simply must be played if you are at all fond of free-roaming action games. The emphasis on super powers means that it's unlikely you'll have played anything like it before, as they allow you to play in a number of ways. The size and sheer verticality of the environment is key to the experience, and you're simply given the tools to explore and have fun.
Tom Orry · Feb 27, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The superhero powers and coop mode alone make Crackdown worth recommending. Next time, throw in some more structure - or at least some more gadgets and toys to wreak havoc with when there is no structure - and you'll have a classic must-buy franchise.
Charlie Barratt · Feb 17, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Simply living inside Crackdown's gorgeous world, which is at all-times begging you to sample it's every delight, is enough for us. Chain-bomb a hundred barrels and you'll see what Saints Row could have been. Scale the tallest building and you'll discover what Just Cause could never achieve. GTA IV has plenty to live up to.
Andy Robinson · Feb 12, 2007 Reviewed on X360 - But overall the thrill of jumping like a mutant kangaroo from rooftop to rooftop is unrivaled! The smart blend of collecting orbs in a wildly vertical setting while constantly feeling the reward of powering up creates an unbeatable sensation of addictive fun. You'll have a blast, even if for a short while.
Douglass C. Perry · Feb 12, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Crackdown feels unfinished. It feels like the developers sat down and crafted a wonderful-looking city and carefully considered how the gameplay and abilities should work, and then they didn't have enough time to plug in enough activities to take advantage of it all. While you'll certainly have a lot of fun playing Crackdown, it's hard not to get the distinct feeling that it was on the cusp of being so much more.
Jeff Gerstmann · Feb 12, 2007 Reviewed on X360Read full review - In other words, being so excellent that you obliterate the single-player in a weekend is not enough to stop it being my favourite Xbox 360 game of recent times. You should definitely buy it, because, on this evidence, waiting for Grand Theft Auto IV would be rather daft. This is what it should do anyway.

About the game
Crackdown is a futuristic, online take on the wide-open Grand Theft Auto genre. You play as a super-human agent assigned to take out the filth that has starting filling up all corners of your city. The city's thousands of gangsters have grouped together into three criminal organizations: Cai-Shen Corp, an Asian gang that uses hitmen to extract revenge, The Volk, a Russian gang that specializes in guns, and La Muerta, a Spanish group that loves cars. Your overall goal as an agent is to defeat the bosses of these organizations, bringing peace to the city. You are a one-man super army, but if the going gets too tough, a friend can jump in and play along with you in co-op mode to bring an unstoppable crime fighting force to Pacific City.
