  • Graphics are exquisite: a well-balanced mix of 3D graphics and cartoony artwork. Controls are mobile-native and intuitive. Storyline is the cherry on top: it keeps you glued to the screen mission after mission. In a nutshell, CounterSpy is a well-designed, challenging and original game. Worth every cent.

  • All in all, it is a pretty fun game, quite worthy of its Playstation/console roots. It works well, is flexible and does a good job of keeping players engaged. The advertised Playstation/cross platform sync is another cherry on top.

  • Although a bit leaner than its console cousin, CounterSpy does an excellent job of delivering all of the original’s visual flare and unique gameplay mechanics. It’s a shame there just isn’t more of it.

  • Its freedom of playing style is refreshing, and allows players to choose between going in guns blazing or taking out enemies swiftly and silently. This is a mission that everyone should choose to accept.

  • As such, CounterSpy is quite the interesting – and ambitious – game for mobile, and I’m excited to see a console game release in a similar form on mobile, only weeks after the console one comes out! But it’s hard to not be left wanting by CounterSpy.

  • With Sony at the helm, I have to believe that there are resources that could be employed if they were so inclined. I'm not sure I have the secret formula to make a successful multi-platform game but CounterSpy is currently missing some key ingredients.

  • CounterSpy is a fantastic action platformer that hits the mark. The game strikes a wonderful balance between action and stealth with its unique cover mechanic. The style and tone of the game pay a wonderful tribute to classic spy movies, and it is a thrill to play.

  • The first few hours of CounterSpy are thrilling when there's an effective balance between stealth and action. It's a shame that the best part gets cut out when the sneakiness is replaced with cover-shooting. ...You can throw a lot of enemies into a room and call a game hard, but it takes more than that to call it fun.

  • CounterSpy is an excellent addition to the PlayStation Network with enough style and unique gameplay mechanics to make it stand out from the pack of side-scrolling platforming/action titles. ...it's an entertaining title for anybody who likes some good old-fashioned stealth action. Its later levels can be a bit frustrating, but its espionage challenges are enough fun that you'll want to keep trying until you reach the final mission.

  • For all its interesting concepts and stylish presentation, CounterSpy’s biggest downfall is its procedurally generated stages. ...CounterSpy doesn’t really develop beyond its opening concepts. It’s fun to play the spy game for a while, but it quickly falls victim to tedium and repetition, with an unrewarding ending that comes off as a smoldering dud.

    About the game

Combining the spy mythology and bold aesthetics of the 1950's and 1960's and set during the Cold War, CounterSpy™ focuses on the rogue third spy agency, C.O.U.N.T.E.R., that keeps the world's super powers at bay. Just as each side of the ongoing conflict gets close to unleashing a blow of earthshaking proportions, C.O.U.N.T.E.R. jumps into action, stealthily sabotaging their dastardly plans and deceptively maintaining world peace.
