- Coffee Talk is a pleasingly creative game with a lot of heart and hidden depth. During my playthrough, I felt like I was curling up with a good book under a blanket, sipping a warm beverage. Every once in a while, we could all do with that relaxing way to pass the time.
Audra Bowling · Jan 15, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Coffee Talk does so much right and only manages to miss the mark in ways that I selfishly wish it hadn’t. Regardless of its weak points, Coffee Talk is a wonderful, mellow, melancholic yet hopeful experience that anyone with a Saturday morning, and a pot of coffee to kill, should enjoy.
Austin Ford · Sep 29, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Coffee Talk is a fun game that offers entertaining conversation and chilled ambiance. For what it’s worth, the game’s setting and premise require very little from the player, but that also takes away the experience of playing a game. I recommend Coffee Talk to anyone interested in a relaxed time on the Switch, even if the choices you make along the way are minimal.
Jennifer Sheffield · Feb 26, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Coffee Talk is not just a game, or actually it’s barely a game at all. It’s a great read about a rainy day that you can relax to and enjoy at any moment, and it’s a piece of art in its own way. It’s a bit low on gameplay, but the originality and atmosphere that seeps through its outer shell truly know how to grab you by the shoulders and pull you in for a great experience.
Pimp Without The Pee · Feb 26, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Yet, it’s apparent that this visual novel will become very much ‘of its time’ in the years to come. And whilst novels are a personal favourite of mine amongst literary genres, the ‘visual novels’ like Coffee Talk have never had me quite so enthralled as their print counterparts. Toge Productions creates an attractive and calming world to be wrapped up in – but doesn’t provide much more than a comfort read.
Nathan Rowland · Feb 19, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Coffee Talk is such an odd gem. It certainly has its problems, but none of them really hinders the game in a significant way. It’s an incredibly relaxing and thoughtful experience that anyone can enjoy thanks to its fictitious take of a very familiar setting. It may not have been the coffee shop simulator I expected, but had a good time playing nonetheless.
Michael Ruiz · Feb 11, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Games in the 'visual novel' corner of the industry can often leave you a little cold unless you’re happy to watch an anime with a small amount of actual player interaction, but with its unique premise and interesting take on a fantasy world (think Netflix's Bright, but actually good), Coffee Talk serves up a refreshing brew of angst, introspection and coffee beans.
Dom Reseigh-Lincoln · Feb 08, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Coffee Talk is far from a bad way to spend a few evenings, with some interesting characters and stories being told. For me though, the same sounding ‘voice’ to each character, lack of real weight behind the issues it tries to raise and the uninteresting coffee making aspects bring the whole package down. I applaud the Toge Productions for trying to create something different, and hope they can refine this into something a little more fleshed out down the line.
Jamie Collyer · Feb 02, 2020 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Coffee Talk may remind players of The Red Strings Club or VA-11 HALL-A, and while it certainly looks the part, it’s as different as a cocktail is from a cappuccino. If you understand the absolute joy that comes from sipping your favorite brew in a coffee shop window, listening to lo fi beats as you watch city lights twinkle while rain lightly falls from the heavens, you will immediately understand Coffee Talk. Perhaps it’s an acquired taste; those with refined palates will easily see how perfect Coffee Talk is — not too sweet, not too bitter — but a bold, refreshing experience that leaves players immensely satisfied until the very last drop.
Heather Johnson Yu · Jan 31, 2020 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Coffee Talk is an interesting experience. At times, it struggles with just how far it wants to explore certain topics, sometimes only giving a cursory look at the issue at hand. I was still entertained during my playthrough, and I genuinely cared about the characters and their journeys – even if those journeys don’t take them to unexpected places.
