- Citizen Sleeper intelligently and elegantly explores its cyberpunk themes and the growing potential of tabletop-inspired digital RPGs.
Aleks Franiczek · May 14, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Citizen Sleeper hooks you with its elegant presentation, thoughtful narrative, and memorable characters, and despite one or two small missteps, it's an engrossing, atmospheric experience worth a roll of the dice.
Stephen Tailby · Mar 30, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Citizen Sleeper can be some great solo fun for those who have played a similar Powered by the Apocalypse game. But, the game doesn’t offer enough to entice newcomers with no experience. Even then, it can be a little difficult to resist just cheating the system by min-maxing on certain skills.
Fragnarok · May 25, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Citizen Sleeper allows for multiple playthroughs, and even when looking through screenshots during my review there are characters and locations I never once encountered within my first playthrough. Because of the heavy story-driven nature of Citizen Sleeper, your enjoyment will be contingent on your appreciation of the sci-fi genre as well as how much brain space is occupied by thoughts of Turing Tests.
Jordan Loades · May 25, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - In the end, though, Citizen Sleeper is less a critique of capitalism itself, which in its defense has been done countless times in the cyberpunk genre, and more an opportunity to showcase how those under its thumb persevere and succeed despite it. Its hopeful and inspiring message is backed by a branching, heartfelt narrative, and a great gameplay loop, making it tough to put down.
Wesley LeBlanc · May 23, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|S - Citizen Sleeper succeeds through its connection, rather than complexity. There aren't wildly divergent stat progressions nor mind-blowing dialogue choices to make; instead, it meshes functional tabletop systems with genuine storytelling in a way that's tough to put down. It's surprising how a cluster of random dice rolls can feel so naturally incorporated that it eventually becomes second nature.
Lee Mehr · May 19, 2022 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - The dice system is adequate enough, but everything takes so long and requires too many clicks. Citizen Sleeper would have probably worked better as a more classic visual novel, with the resources assigned to mechanics re-routed to deliver more story.
Cosmin Vasile · May 13, 2022 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Citizen Sleeper is an innovative cyberpunk RPG that understands the core tenants of the genre better than most AAA attempts. With deeply sympathetic (and extremely cool) characters, it builds its punishing post-capitalist society on the back of some of the best descriptive prose I've seen in a video game. The only caveat is to play with a mouse and keyboard if you can.
Bryn Gelbart · May 12, 2022 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - The atmosphere, then, is top notch; Citizen Sleeper does a great job of immersing you in this dark and diverse community.
Mitch Vogel · May 09, 2022 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Citizen Sleeper is a unique and thought-provoking adventure that's truly taken us by surprise.
