- Buried deep within Chronus Arc are some neat new ideas mixed with a well-meaning tribute to one of the genre's golden ages, but there's so much that serves to spoil the enjoyment of its well-crafted elements that it's very difficult to recommend to all but the most devout.
Alex Donaldson · Nov 30, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Chronus Arc serves well as an accessible, introductory start to the genre, although never builds enough of an identity to let it stand apart from the more well-established competition in the Nintendo 3DS library.
Alex Seedhouse · Nov 09, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Chronus Arc is competent RPG that fails to deliver on one of the most important aspects of the genre: the story. It delivers an uninspiring narrative, coupled with a forgettable soundtrack and fast travel and escape mechanics that, while solid, rob the game of any sense of difficulty. If you're looking purely for old-school RPG mechanics, you may have some fun with Chronus Arc. Otherwise, you may want to look to another one of the many great RPGs the 3DS has to offer.
Steve Bowling · Oct 08, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - A lack of charm and new ideas alongside a sluggish battle system means Chronus Arc is an RPG title truly stuck in the past. With so many better titles on the Nintendo Switch, this is a difficult game to recommend.
Nathan Ellingsworth · Mar 14, 2020 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Chronus Arc is not a bad old-school RPG by any means, but after all the time since its original release, it now suffers from the comparison with other games from even the same developer that are already out on Switch. If craving for more Kemco RPGs after having already finished every other already available on Switch then sure, it isn't bad, but if not, it's totally possible to do better on the same platform.
Rudy Lavaux · Jan 25, 2019 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - It is far from perfect, and not in the upper echelons, alongside the RPG legends, but it delivers a very enjoyable puzzle-cum-adventure experience full of charming visuals and a very melodic soundtrack. Other than some frustrations with some harder than normal in-dungeon puzzle arrangements and a shock to the system in the power of enemies when not grinding enough, this is a great classic throwback to what most would call "the good old days." Approach Chronus Arc with the right expectations and you will be pleasantly surprised.
Adam Riley · Sep 09, 2016 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Chronus Arc may not be anywhere near as desirable as some of the other latest RPG releases, but for the price, it still manages to deliver a somewhat enjoyable traditional and recognisable Japanese role-playing experience.
Izzy Lichi · Oct 25, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Chronus Arc is a very competent RPG in that it does nothing wrong, but it doesn’t stand out in any way. To be perfectly blunt, it did nothing for me in terms of telling a story and it’s probably an experience I would forget in a few weeks. That doesn’t mean it’s bad, however, and I would recommend it if you’re looking for an old school JRPG experience during a rainy day or boring weekend. It’s not a revolutionary title by any means, but in terms of nostalgia value it accomplishes what it set out to do.
