- Chants of Sennaar meets the highest standards due to its finely crafted, original and addictive language-learning gameplay, and also its beautifully honed graphics and sonics. It’s a distinctively French feast for the eyes, ears and brain.
Piero Serra · Sep 17, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Through its inventive template melding gameplay and world-building, its inspired twist on a biblical tale still captures the Old Testament's mythos and grandeur. Along with a fantastic art style, genuine intrigue, and more, it ultimately translates into a towering achievement.
Lee Mehr · Oct 06, 2023 Reviewed on Series X|SRead full review - Chants of Sennaar is a wonderfully refreshing puzzle adventure game. There’s huge satisfaction in making progress without the game holding your hand through every step. It reminds me of Tunic in this regard. You’re given only the basic idea of what to do, and the rest is up to your own powers of observation and deduction in order to figure things out and progress.
Heidi Hawes · Oct 03, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Chants of Sennaar is beautifully designed from the ground up. With a fantastic look, beautiful music, and unique gameplay almost entirely focused on translating various languages, there’s nothing like it on the market. If that sounds like something you’d be interested in, you’re almost certainly right that it will be.
Andrew Thornton · Sep 26, 2023 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Chants of Sennaar and the way it explores the relations between different groups of people is really engaging as a game. With language at its core, it highlights both the differences and the similarities between people and cultures. Chants of Sennaar is a puzzle game that deserves attention.
Aran Suddi · Sep 26, 2023 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A bold art style, smart core conceit, and enigmatic environments make for an entirely unique puzzle game. Chants of Sennaar can be tricky, and there are flaws (like those ill-conceived, though thankfully short-lived and infrequent, stealth segments), but deciphering languages and seeking out the game's myriad secrets and mysteries will keep you hooked right until the very end. It's unlikely you'll have played anything quite like Chants of Sennaar, and its singular nature is something to be celebrated.
Richard Walker · Sep 08, 2023 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - A strikingly beautiful game, Chants of Sennaar takes you on a journey through a number of finely crafted cultures that challenge your puzzle skills and absorb you fully into the looming secrets of the labyrinth.
Kirstie Summers · Sep 07, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Chants of Sennaar is as defined by its peaks as its valleys. For every moment of mind-blowing, brilliant puzzle design comes an inversely frustrating moment stymied by '90s adventure game logic. The game's ability to teach a player aspects of a language is awe-inspiring, and its way of guiding players along with as little information as possible is intensely rewarding—when it works. Even though it isn't for everyone (or consistently excellent), it's constantly impressive.
Charlie Wacholz · Sep 06, 2023 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Unique in its art style and its approach to gameplay, Chants of Sennaar filled with captivating puzzles that are a joy to solve, set against a backdrop of a world that you’ll be desperate to learn more of. Figuring out the meaning of each glyph is supremely satisfying, but also is solving the game’s wealth of other puzzles. Even a generous helping of stealth is not enough to dampen our enjoyment of this special game.
Kim Snaith · Sep 05, 2023 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Chants of Sennaar has a terrifically unique focus on translation, portraying the differences between various cultures’ languages excellently through its enjoyable puzzle-solving. With no other game quite like it, we’d highly recommend getting lost in translation here.
