- Cave Story is a brilliant, touching game that is truly special, and that all gamers should make it a point to play. But cheaper, arguably more perfect versions of it are easily available for download. In fact, through the eShop you can have this very same game in its DSiWare form on your 3DS for literally a fraction of the cost.
Audrey Drake · Nov 11, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Cave Story 3D is Cave Story unencumbered. It's Pixel's dream realized on a new platform for the masses, and in a form anyone can appreciate. While the new graphical style might lack the charm of the original's it's in no way bad – just different and, in a way, more appropriate.
Hollander Cooper · Nov 08, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - It's still an amazing game, and it's definitely worth your time and cash, but budget-conscious consumers who prefer an 8-bit look may be better served by picking up the DSiWare version for a fraction of the cost. Either way, every 3DS owner should buy Cave Story. It's one of the best games ever made, in 3D or otherwise.
Jonathan Holmes · Nov 08, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - It's not possible to recommend this version of Cave Story over all others, but it is a worthy, good-looking adaptation of a wonderful game all the same. If the WiiWare and DSiWare versions passed you by, and you'd rather do your platforming with an analogue pad than a keyboard, Cave Story 3D is a great way to discover a game that well deserves your attention.
Jane Douglas · Nov 08, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - The original Cave Story is a great game, and what is being offered here is the same at the core. It looks a bit bland, but it’s still fun to play, the music is still great, and the story is still interesting. It’s not my favorite version of Cave Story (that would be the WiiWare version), but it’s still worth playing, especially considering the lack of compelling single-player games on the 3DS outside of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D.
Kyle Hilliard · Nov 07, 2011 Reviewed on 3DS - Cave Story has always been an extremely charming and engaging experience, but never before has the game come alive with the type of depth and realism that the 3D visuals and lighting effects provide.
Corbie Dillard · Oct 20, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - This remake is a labour of love, and it catches the single most important thing about Cave Story. Objectively, it's a 2D game heavily inspired by Metroid. In its details, and in your hands and head, it's another world entirely.
Rich Stanton · Nov 11, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Mildly disappointing port of an exceptional game that retains its charm
