  • Though Castlevania: Symphony of the Night was the first entry to truly embrace 2D exploration and non-linear progression, it was in these three GBA titles that the “-vania” was permanently affixed to the “Metroid.” Individually, they are fantastic games, and together, they offer an irresistible package to fans of the series and genre. Our reviewers very much enjoyed each game in the collection, and we highly recommend it to those looking for engaging, challenging, and expertly crafted Metroidvania games!

  • Honestly, I could give the the Castlevania Advance Collection a thumbs up just for Castlevania: Aria of Sorrow alone. That's a fun gem that feels like it's been lost to the ages and forgotten in a "favorite Castlevania" conversation that's often dominated by Symphony of the Night. The rest of the compilation is decent and worth trying at least once, though Dracula X is definitely on the lower end of Castlevania titles and should be sampled as a historical curiosity only.

  • Castlevania Advance Collection Is one of those rare game collections that does everything you would want a collection to and more. Its inclusion of legendary Game Boy Advance titles and rare SNES game make it worth checking out if you're a fan of the series or just looking to dive into some of the best Metroidvanias ever made.

  • Castlevania Advance Collection is legitimately one of the best gaming experiences I’ve ever had. The collection of this trilogy is magnificent, boasting satisfying, methodical progression, great soundtracks, and addictive RPG systems.

  • The addition of late era SNES game Vampire’s Kiss is also welcome but only really adds superficial value to the package. Ultimately, there’s a lot of quality adventuring to be had here however – with Aria of Sorrow in particular still one of the best entries in the entire Castlevania series.

  • Castlevania Advance Collection sets the standard for how older games should be preserved and presented to a modern audience. There are many quality of life features to make the games more accessible while keeping everything that made them special in the first place.

  • Castlevania Advance Collection is a must play for Castlevania fans and metroidvania fans in general. The three GBA games may have their graphics and sound quality limited by their original hardware, but they’re prime examples as to why these are the best type of Castlevania games. The biggest visual drawback with this collection is when a game designed for a three-inch screen is displayed on a much larger screen, the magnification doesn’t do any favors to the graphics.

  • Straight ports of old games can be a hard sell, especially from the Game Boy Advance. What’s impressive is how fun these games remain, despite the very aged graphics. It’s unfortunate Konami hasn’t modernized the series, but there are hours of great gameplay in this pack to make it worthwhile. I was surprised how well these classic Castlevania adventures hold up, but it makes me sad because Konami doesn’t seem to be making new ones or even just modernizing the older games.

  • To be clear, it’s mostly Aria of Sorrow that’s doing the heavy lifting with this collection, as it really is one of the best in the entire Castlevania series. Circle and Harmony are alright but on the lower tier of the other Metroidvanias, while Dracula X is middling even on its own standards. These are still very much worth playing, though, and this collection makes for an essential purchase for both longtime Castlevania fans and newbies.

  • While the bells and whistles aren’t necessarily anything to write home about, the GBA games at the core of this Castlevania Advance Collection are easily worth the price of admission. I remain flummoxed and annoyed that Konami is holding Rondo of Blood and Symphony of the Night hostage for the time being, but hopefully that will be resolved someday.
