  • Capes has loads of personality and offers a genuinely fresh experience thanks to new ideas in structure and an emphasis on characters and story. I absolutely loved the reworked and superior post-patch experience from start to finish, and have no problems recommending it to tactics fans craving something besides the usual medieval or military fare. My hat is off to the team for putting in what must have been a huge amount of work and ultimately saving the day — the effort was well worth it.

Capes to naprawdę ciekawa propozycja dla miłośników turowych gier akcji, ale niestety poza rozgrywką, nic innego nie będzie w stanie utrzymać was przed ekranem na dłużej.

  • Capes has several good ideas that it grapples with, although its potential is not fully realized. The title impresses through its solid tactical combat, compelling characters backed up by mission-based characterization, challenging action that will make you think, and a stable performance on the Switch. However, the story becomes predictable despite initial attempts at subverting genre tropes, the gameplay often lacks oomph, the soundtrack is repetitive, and the presentation leaves much to be desired.

  • Come for the satisfying, concentration-demanding turn-based tactical puzzles with a diverse and interesting roster. Reconsider your stay when the difficulty curve takes to the skies.

Capes has a really neat idea for sure, superheroes are still the hot thing and putting them in a tactical game is a cool idea. Unfortunately, the execution here was less than stellar; lackluster voice acting, dull combat, and heroes that frankly just don’t feel heroic. If you are looking for heroic, tactical action you’d be better off looking elsewhere; this isn’t the game you’re looking for.

  • Flying into battle with a strong but satisfying difficulty curve, Capes sheds the fluff of more expansive titles to double down on the tactical acumen of an XCOM title. Missions are tough, thrilling and ultimately rewarding. Even if the story behind the carnage is lackluster and the spikes in difficulty can be positively mountainous, Capes proves you don’t need a popular licence to make a grand superhero worthy of acclaim.

  • Capes is clearly designed to appeal to anyone who has played and liked X-COM and its tactical puzzles. The game successfully moves the action to a universe featuring superheroes. I liked the theme, although the developers don’t do much new with it. Unfortunately, the presentation, especially the graphics, isn’t as good as the mechanics. This is a video game that emphasizes a thorough understanding of one’s team and a desire to execute a mission as well as possible. Revisiting levels to get more skill points is expected. Capes is challenging and complex and offers fans of the tactics space plenty of options to experiment and optimize.

  • Capes is a clever and challenging tactics game with a clear love of the superhero comics that inspired it. And no one actually wears a cape.

  • If Capes’ biggest crime is that it isn’t the most original game and that its fights require more thought than some might like, then I’d call Spitfire Interactive’s debut a hearty success. Within its deep tactics gameplay is plenty of exciting and creative party DNA to tool around with. It even has a surprisingly refreshing tone and take on the superhero genre that is the most authentic I’ve seen in a while. So why not go save the world? I promise a super duper good time awaits.

  • Capes mezcla XCOM y Marvel: Midnight Sons para ofrecer un RPG Táctico sólido, en el que las sinergias entre tu escuadrón heroico marcan la diferencia. Un título que reta pero que no sorprende lo suficiente.

About the game

Twenty years ago, the supervillains won. Since then, they’ve created a dystopian city where developing super powers is a crime. Nobody has managed to slow them down, until now. Capes is a turn based superhero strategy game where you build a team of heroes and fight to take back the city. Played across a series of campaign and patrol missions, choose to push forward with the story or take the time to explore the side missions and unlock more heroes, earn skill points and complete challenges, and learn more about your heroes lives. Recruit new heroes with a range of unique powers and abilities. Every hero plays differently, and requires a fresh approach to their powers and abilities. Learning and exploiting each hero's unique play style will build their power in combat allowing them to unleash their personal tide turning Ultimates. Exciting, heroic, turn based combat to test your strategic skills. Team ups and positioning matter, unlocking new ways to approach every enemy type and supervillain you encounter. Capes combat isn't based around random numbers or lurking behind cover. Power doesn't make you invulnerable, far from it. Your choices will make the difference between victory and defeat. Take up to 4 heroes to work together in each mission. Each hero gains a unique team up ability from each of their allies, allowing them to work together to take advantage of their unique powers. Level up your heroes to gain access to new abilities and powerful upgrades. Use Skill Points acquired from completing objectives and challenges to unlock their powers. Complete collections of hero specific challenges during missions to earn bonus Skill Points and unlock optional missions that give a deeper insight into each of the heroes.
