  • There's definitely more to explore here, but everything else offered in this game is just a variation on a few basic themes. I'm not saying that as a criticism; obviously the simplicity of Bejeweled has won a large following, and deservedly so. But this is one of those games that you know within the first five minutes whether or not it's for you. And that kind of approachability may be the only real downside to this game. Bejeweled is everywhere, and has been for years now, so if you haven't tried it already, there's not much here that will attract your attention.

  • How much you get out of Bejeweled 3 is ultimately going to depend on how much swapping colored gems on a grid still appeals to you. If you played Bejeweled, Bejeweled 2, Bejeweled Blitz, and the Puzzle Quest series, we wouldn't blame you if you decided to sit this one out, despite Bejeweled 3 being easily the most robust entry in the series to date.

  • The problem is, the overall presentation feels immediately obsolete. The “flashy new HD graphics” are only new if you haven’t already played Blitz, and the lack of Facebook connectivity feels like a step backward. Needless to say, there’s a lot of game here waiting to be uncovered and mastered, and for a mere $20 it’s hard not to recommend. I was just hoping for something a little...more.

  • The worst thing you could do is write this game off as a Bejeweled 2 rehash. Yes, they've incorporated all the features that have made Bejeweled our go-to puzzler this past decade, but it's the new modes, mini-games and strategy that will keep you coming back. It's like PopCap went out of their way to top themselves and make sure that we never fully pay attention to anything ever again.

  • If Bejeweled has become part of your evening ritual, Bejeweled 3 deserves a prominent spot in the rotation. Core gamers may scoff at the idea of playing something so simple, but they’d be missing out by not giving it a shot. Sure, it’s pretty, but it’s also one of the purest, most addicting – and, yes, challenging – games around.

  • While you may want to wait for a sale to knock a few bucks off the retail price, Bejeweled 3 is a good investment for longtime fans and a great place for newcomers to start. It's an irresistible blend of top-notch production values, simple gameplay, and endless small innovations to keep that gameplay fresh.

Bejeweled is as accessible as gaming gets. With the third numbered version PopCap delivers eight distinct modes, so if you get hooked by the classic gameplay formula there's a lot more to dig into. There's something here for every kind of Bejeweled fan, from high intensity timed challenges to more laid back matching options. It's just a shame the leaderboards aren't online, which misses out on a lot of potential for competitive longevity.

  • All these factors make Bejeweled transcend beyond its own casual genre. There’s just too much going on for it to be labeled as such. Nay; Bejeweled 3 is a full-fledged puzzle game and it deserves the same respect that these games receive. If anything, this iteration has made any previous one completely obsolete and PopCap should respectfully stop selling any other ones, because at this point, they have become redundant. Buyer, beware: you will spend a lot of time playing this game!

  • This thought is reflected across the game as a whole too. While Pop cap haven’t changed up too many of the fundamentals that make Bejeweled what it is, they have instead added some modes that feel either superior or wholly unique when compared to other puzzle games on the market. Though some will be happy sticking with the various other versions of this now legendary series, those who need just a little more depth in their puzzle titles can do no wrong with Bejeweled 3.

  • It all adds up to another quietly fearsome package: a classic game trying on a range of smart new outfits. If you've come to PopCap through Steam, Xbox Live, Facebook, or the iPhone, you might just feel the absence of the meme-age wit that has marked the company's more recent output. If you were there from the start, you'll feel right at home. Either way, be warned: Bejeweled 3 is one-more-go gaming at its most polished.
