  • The five multiplayer modes and eight scaleable maps give fans a lot of replay value, but the game's fundamental flaw is still intact: boring gameplay. Bombing runs can be fun, but navigating slow ships with even slower ammo reloads and babysitting units doesn't add up to a riveting experience. Count this bored midshipman out.

  • While some will definitely enjoy the sandbox nature of the game and the variety of units it provides, others might be put off by the arcadey gameplay and simplistic strategy. The game provides a decent amount of replayability through its multiplayer modes but it's hard to tell if there are enough gamers online as of this writing to make that a sure thing.

  • Battlestations: Pacific improves upon almost every facet of the original, offering more of just about everything

  • There have been a number of successful and unsuccessful attempts to bring real-time strategy to modern consoles, and Battlestations: Pacific is one of the best yet. Impressively, no feature seems as if it received the short end of the stick; each gameplay element stands out on its own. Combined, they lead to an exciting and varied experience that should appeal to action junkies and armchair tacticians alike.

  • A few small blemishes aside, Battlestations: Pacific is the well-rounded, substantially improved sequel that fans of the first game were hoping for. It chisels out some of the rough edges of Midway and adds a lot of new material into the mix without substantially changing the formula.

  • There's oodles of content here - two campaigns, masses of unlockable vehicles that can be used to alter missions, and a comprehensive multiplayer mode that offers the chance to wage epic battles with up to seven friends. In short, Pacific is very much the son of its forebear. If you're prepared to push through its choppier moments, you'll find a rich and highly enjoyable game that should keep you occupied for months.

  • Battlestations: Pacific still has much to recommend underneath the flaws, much like its predecessor. It's an often clumsy and over-ambitious enterprise, one that can wow you with a pirouette and then slip over on a banana skin in the same mission, but the pleasures it does offer are enhanced by the knowledge that it's still the only game offering them.

  • Behind the dreary single-player campaigns is a game that'll provide you with a strong distraction, for as long as other people are playing it

  • Still, this is an accomplished strategy title on whichever format you decide to play it on. The attention to detail is to be applauded and the wealth of options on offer is at once bewildering and admirable. We just wish that we had the attention span, wherewithal and patience to fully appreciate what Eidos Hungary has achieved with Battlestations: Pacific. As it stands though, the intricacies and complexities of the game are sadly lost on us.

  • Sus gráficos y sonido son la guinda del pastel; conseguirán que cualquiera que entre en la habitación mientras vuestro acorazado bombardea indiscriminadamente la flota enemiga suelte alguna expresión de admiración, como mínimo.

About the game

The second of Eidos' action/simulation game series, Battlestations: Pacific delivers intense, action-packed combat and strategic warfare at an extraordinary scale and features two distinctly different single player campaigns. The game features a massive U.S. and Japanese single player campaign that offers a unique blend of action and strategy. Players must plan their moves carefully on huge open-world arenas and fight in the air, above sea and underwater to relive some of the most hard-fought battles in WWII history.
