- Battleship is one of the original board games and has managed to stand the test of time over the years, though it has been awhile since a true video game adaptation has been released. While the speed of the game could definitely be improved due to time consuming animations, Frima Studio has managed to reinvigorate the core gameplay of one of the most recognizable board games by adding more strategy than ever in the new Battleship.
Dean James · Aug 11, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Battleship is easily conquered within just four hours, with no semblance of bonus missions or even a whiff of multiplayer. All for $60 – the same price this publisher attaches to its annual military blockbuster, which sports a bigger and bolder campaign, much better production values, and a multiplayer experience that keeps on giving. Battleship is little more than a checkmark on a to-do list; a completed contractual obligation. Just a handful of red pegs on a board, signifying a failed effort.
Andrew Hayward · May 30, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - In the event that you are immune to the game's primary flaws, Battleship still stands to disappoint you because there are only seven redundant missions and no alternate modes available to keep you busy when you're done with the campaign. The next time you're in the mood to sink ships, try the board game instead.
Jason Venter · May 25, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - When all is said and done, I cannot recommend Battleship to anyone. The story has very little relation to the movie upon which it is based. The graphics and presentation are bland. There are only three enemy types to dispose of. There is no multiplayer. Other than collecting in-game pegs inspired from the board game, replayability scarcely exists. If the alien-invaded world taken from the Battleship movie really entertains you, I would still only recommend that you rent this game.
Paulmichael Contreras · May 25, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - Although fairly competent and often challenging, Battleship is a mediocre licensed game through and through. This is a shame, because after playing it, I feel like Magic Pockets is capable of so much more.
Alex Culafi · May 24, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - The core of Battleship is fun and entertaining, and it makes you think that if Double Helix had a full-dev cycle, they could have put together a very memorable experience. As is though, Battleship feels half-finished and rushed out the door without any of the polish we’ve come to expect from a game with a $60 price tag.
Ray Carsillo · May 17, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - What is left is a title that isn't truly good or bad, with aspects that can be fun at times yet which grow boring over the course of its 4 hour lifespan, and ultimately it falls just short of being anything more than decidedly average. Battleship is neither the kind of hit that would wow anyone at E3, nor is it the best gift for a D8, but even though it doesn't offer anything you haven't seen B4, there's little here to H8.
Maurice Tan · May 07, 2012 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The presentation is similarly poor, with flat textures and woeful animation underlining its PS2-era budget. Dialogue samples are frequently repeated throughout the campaign, and while it’s not embarrassing like an old-school FIFA title, it’s noticeable enough to grate. There are some neat ideas bubbling beneath Battleship’s surface, but the overall poor presentation and frustrating lack of ideas mean this tie-in is best left at the bottom of the ocean.
Sammy Barker · May 23, 2012 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - It's a tough and merciless game in spots, and its difficulty ramps up rapidly. Planning several steps ahead and anticipating how your opponent will manoeuvre itself is crucial, so anyone considering picking this up for a younger player should probably think again.
Peter Willington · May 14, 2012 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - There’s an element of novelty in the first few minutes of play, but it doesn’t last long. It isn’t even the sketchy gameplay that sinks this Battleship – it’s the abhorrently commercial objective apparent in every second of rushed gameplay. There’s no artistic vision here, and the original idea at its core hasn’t been given the time and love needed to build a coherent or enjoyable game.
