- The Banner Saga 2 expands on the series' existing foundations with more of the same. There’s no drastic overhaul to the text-based elements or battle segments, and similar systems are in place when it comes to managing your caravan party, fighting enemies, and talking your way out of a tight spot. If you’ve played the original, you’ll know exactly what to expect.
Liam Doolan · Aug 25, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The Banner Saga 2 continues to deliver a refreshingly personal experience, and, while some of the unpredictable events that transpire will undoubtedly astound, it is the rippling consequences of your own actions that keep you transfixed to the point that you will fret over every decision that you are forced to make. It has been a long time since a game has so readily impressed me across the board, and, with that, I now wait to see how the Saga comes to a close.
Alex Seedhouse · Jul 25, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Overall Banner Saga 2 is a game full of despair, heartache, and utter loss, and that’s some of the best parts. There is always some hope as you push forward. You will become intertwined in a huge story based on Viking-type characters and lore and spend hours doing it.
Chris Bowman · Jul 13, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - The Banner Saga 2, however, isn’t designed for newcomers. It’s recommended to start from the first game before jumping into the sequel. While it can certainly be enjoyed without playing the original, players will be missing out on key character and plot developments. If you’re looking for a deep tactical RPG with a fantastic story on Switch, you can’t do much better than The Banner Saga 2.
Anthony Bacchus · Jun 19, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Banner Saga 2 is a great sequel, building on the first one’s fantastic presentation and style. The music is positively sublime especially when paired with the gorgeous art and animation. If you’re craving a good fantasy story and are down for some fun tactical turn-based fare, this series is one to follow through on. The finale can’t come soon enough even if the battles and story segments along the way might thin the party in tragic ways.
Neal Ronaghan · Jun 17, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - For the price of Banner Saga 2 you can’t get a more in-depth strategy game. Square Enix should take notice, you’ll get a lot more players repurchasing your games if they don’t have to pay full retail price on mobile devices. Unfortunately, there was a single in-app purchase I noticed for the survival mode, but it still makes the price of the game a fraction of other similar titles. Prior to this title I hadn’t played anything on mobile that took itself as seriously as this.
Alex Lupella · Oct 14, 2016 Reviewed on AndRead full review - Ultimately I have hope and faith in Stoic. If they can fix these bugs, Banner Saga 2 is going to be amazing. It already is amazing, but it just needs a little love. I can still recommend this game, but if you are on the fence you probably won't have to wait long for the fixes to roll in. Even with it's flaws, Banner Saga 2 fills the shoes of it's predecessor and brings some very welcome touches to an immersive universe that never fails to suck you in and make you feel bad. In a good way.
Andrew Fretz · Oct 07, 2016 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Banner Saga 2 is one of the finest combinations of character, gameplay, and narrative that you can find. It's a game that spends as much time on being a fun and varied strategy game as it does on making you care about its world and the reasons why its characters are in the situation they are in. It's really hard to ask much more than that.
Campbell Bird · Sep 29, 2016 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - The Banner Saga 2 picks up where the original left off, telling a stirring and engaging 2nd chapter of a hero’s tale. While very much an extension of the previous title, there are several welcome enhancements that should put the game on the radar of any serious turn-based fan.
Paul Sullivan · Aug 04, 2016 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Where did I start? Oh yes, epic. While it’s got its problems, I’ll stand by calling The Banner Saga 2 an epic. For the most part it’s wonderfully well-realised: it has a compelling and moving story that really drives the game forward, along with engaging and thought-provoking gameplay from start to finish.
