  • Attack on Titan 2 is far from being a perfect game as it suffers from some severe framerate hiccups and some pacing issues, but it’s still a great action title for the Switch. Its combat is addictive and its story is excellent. It’s one of the very few anime games which have actually managed to convince me to take a look at its original source material. If you’re a fan of the series, don’t think twice. If you’ve never watched the show or read the manga, I’d still recommend the game for just being a good game in its own right.

The game looks outstanding on Xbox One X. Taking advantage of the increased power keeps the game running at a blistering pace. The art style is also unique and watching legs and arms fly off the Titans rarely gets old. Maps tend to get a bit stale at times as they reuse a lot of the same assets, and the fact that a lot of the content is recycled from the first game including cut scenes is kind of a bummer.

  • Attack on Titan 2 is a generally decent Attack on Titan game. The mechanics and cutscenes capture the essence of the show quite well, making it one of the less-one-note Omega Force games I’ve played. Unfortunately, the story moves at a plodding pace, and the game falls into more unfortunate strides of repetition than I’d hoped for.

  • Attack on Titan 2 greatly improves upon its predecessor in nearly every way, but still comes with a few issues such as periodical freezing, and at times, poor control feedback. With these small problems to the side, this game undoubtedly does justice to its source material. Attack on Titan 2 is fast-paced energetic fun at its finest.

  • Attack on Titan 2’s flaws make it a hard game to recommend. It’s genuinely fun, and playing through the story of both seasons of the anime is a neat experience. At the same time, the upgrades are minute and almost impossible to justify to someone who bought the first game. The fact that you’re repeating content from the first game again to get to new material is hard to justify. For newcomers, this sequel is clearly the superior game.

  • Attack on Titan 2 is an entertaining game, there’s no doubting that. Traversal is fluid and energetic, combat is fast and exciting, and the game portrays the anime’s world and characters very well. However, it feels like a retread of its predecessor way more than it should, and it also can get quite repetitive as it continues to progress toward the finish line. These flaws hold it back from being a much better game, but the end result it still a pretty solid effort that you can get a good fifteen to twenty hours of enjoyment out of.

  • Fun, gory and surprisingly deep for an adaptation, Attack on Titan 2 may not break any new ground, but will win over the hearts and minds of old and new fans alike.

  • Despite its slow start, Attack on Titan 2 offers exciting gameplay along with a deep and intriguing plot that, melodrama aside, tugs on the heart strings. It's well-paced and offers some impressive spaces to move through. The unique combination of the movement and combat mechanics combines with a gripping story to make Attack on Titan 2 one of the more surprising releases of the year.

  • If you’ve played the first Attack On Titan you’ll have to contend with replaying the first season of the anime/manga again, but the sequel does a much better (and more comprehensive) job of bringing the canon to life in a different medium. Combat is fast, frenetic and exhilarating, but it can get a little repetitive when played with AI teammates.

  • It takes a little while to shake the feeling of deja vu, but once the game hits its stride it comes into its own and just swallows you up, much like one of its freaky Titans. The action is unique and somehow manages to remain exciting, despite its repetitive nature, while the bits inbetween make you feel more like you're part of a world. Fans of the original game will absolutely lap Attack on Titan 2 up, but it's those who are yet to leap into its world, video game or otherwise, that will find it the most rewarding.
