- Visually, Asphalt has decent car models, but suffers from choppy performance, lots of pop-in, laughable animations, and tire marks that float above the road in 3D
Game Trailers · Apr 05, 2011 Reviewed on 3DS - Asphalt 3D shouldn’t be purely dismissed. Its Career mode, offering perhaps more depth than its launch competitor, is a blast to play through, especially with the variety of game types that continually differentiate your experience with varying levels of success. Not necessarily the strongest of the launch line-up, but certainly one that has plenty of content to keep you busy for a long while.
Alex Seedhouse · Mar 30, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Offering police pursuit races, takedown-focused bouts, and several other modes doesn’t help Asphalt 3D’s cause in the least. It’s a buggy mess, and the controls are awful enough to make it a chore even when the game is functioning correctly. With Ridge Racer also available at launch, there’s no reason whatsoever to play this joke.
Dan Ryckert · Mar 29, 2011 Reviewed on 3DS - Asphalt 3D’s flaws are mostly minor but there are too many to ignore, and it doesn’t have enough of its own personality to make amends. Its twitchy handling does it no favours – half the fun of powersliding is wrestling control back from your car, but here the cars all bounce back to a central position as if spring-loaded. If you’re after a launch racer, steer towards Ridge Racer instead.
James Newton · Mar 27, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - On an iPhone, Asphalt's a cheery arcade racer that just about justifies shelling out the same amount as a couple of cups of coffee on. When its blown up for a dedicated gaming machine its imperfections are enlarged and all that Asphalt 3D really introduces is a framerate that can turn this into one particularly ugly slideshow. Truly horrible.
Martin Robinson · Mar 26, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Launch titles are often rushed and not representative of what the console can really do, but Asphalt is poor even by these lowered standards. Of all the early 3DS games I've played, this one is a dead cert to be filling bargain bins in a few weeks.
Tom Orry · Mar 25, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Ultimately, Asphalt 3D is an unremarkable but serviceable racer that too often doesn't put its best foot forward. It's a shame it didn't capitalize on its stronger aspects to deliver a more consistently thrilling experience, but even with its flaws, there's some speedy fun to be had on these streets.
Carolyn Petit · Mar 25, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - So what can I say in summary? It's a £39.99 inferior remix of a £2.99 iPhone game with bad sound, bad graphics and shockingly slapdash collision logic. Not only is it the worst game of the 3DS' launch line-up, it's a contender for the title of 'worst launch game of all time'. Worse than Pen Pen. Worse than Tama. Worse even than Altered Beast. Do I really need to say it? Avoid.
Justin Towell · Mar 25, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Asphalt 3D’s many faults would be slightly more forgivable if it were the only racing game available on the 3DS. Luckily for consumers, that is not the case. Namco Bandai has released the much better Ridge Racer 3D for those who need an arcade racing fix. Even if Asphalt 3D were the only racing game on the 3DS it would still be a hard game to recommend, as it is just too generic and poorly put together to be worth gamers’ time or money.
Xavier Griffiths · May 05, 2011 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - Asphalt 3D signals great things to come for the racing genre on the 3DS, although frame-rate issues and silly collisions bring the action down somewhat
