- Arco tells a story about consequence, sacrifice, colonialism, revenge, and grief. From small, funny exchanges between siblings to the dramatic, overarching plot connecting the main characters, the phenomenal writing is only elevated by how the player can affect it. The ending I got was a fitting conclusion you'd expect to see in any classic Western film, and I'm eager to return to see how dark it gets if I make different choices.

Attraverso l’uso intelligente di una manciata di meccaniche – peraltro non completamente raffinate, ma sempre legate all’atmosfera che gli sviluppatori intendevano creare – il gioco riesce a costruire un mondo e a far percepire sulla pelle del giocatore il brivido di dover soppesare ogni singola interazione, di doversi tenere stretto ogni oggetto dell’inventario, di dover considerare ogni passo compiuto in battaglia. Il sistema di combattimento tattico a turni risulta essere punitivo senza scadere in una difficoltà eccessivamente e immotivatamente elevata, spingendo il giocatore a pensare bene a cosa fare senza mai generare frustrazione. Una perla che non dovreste lasciare passare inosservata.

Puede que lo más sensato sea desconfiar del desconocido que se aproxima a tu hoguera, pero si le permitimos compartir el amparo que ofrece el fuego, si confiamos en que todavía hay espacio para la colaboración, podemos hallar un auténtico tesoro.

I never got used to the ghosts that randomly join the fight but was eager to replay engagements to avoid losing even one pip of health. The game might rely too much on Western tropes at times and the unique look will not be for everyone. But Arco tries to innovate, mixing and matching ideas, and manages to deliver a constant sense of discovery.

Resta nel suo ordinato e coerente (il più delle volte) ambiente, proponendo una storia godibile, con dei risvolti interessanti e crudi, e un gameplay tutto sommato originale e godibile. A chiudere il cerchio un comparto artistico di alto livello, con una colonna sonora di prim'ordine che delude solo nei segmenti più "inventivi". Non mancano i difetti, ma il viaggio vale qualche sbavatura. Il finale, un po' meno.

Not only that, but this game is apparently developed by only a few individuals, proving that great games can be made within a much narrower framework. Give it a shot. Pun intended.
