  • The fact that Amy’s concept was so intriguing sadly magnifies the feeling of gross letdown in its execution. It’s easy to wonder if this game went through any kind of quality assurance testing because any tester would have noticed the flaws with the save system, and lack thereof. It’s such a glaring, simple, yet deal-breaking issue that a patch might very well convince me to raise my score by two full points.

  • Pick something to hate about videogames, and Amy has it. Graphics glitches, lousy design, repetitious gameplay, mushy controls, bad acting, horrible save system ... it's all there. The game's few good ideas simply aren't enough to suffer through the amount of crap surrounding them.

  • Given AMY's downloadable intentions and low price-point, the technical issues could probably be overlooked if the core gameplay was of a satisfactory quality. But it's not. The trial-and-error nature of the level design, and the heinous save and checkpoint system make it a game that's infuriating to play. A slew of fundamental design decisions ruin a collection of great ideas, and that's unfortunate. AMY is not a tense game, it's a frustrating one.

  • Amy is both a throwback and a runt, with meager cult appeal. The low price point will bait dedicated horror enthusiasts tired of Resident Evil and Dead Space’s recent action motifs, but the horror here comes from the code, not the context.

Worst of all for a game hoping to sell itself on scares, Amy is never frightening. Instead, its horrors are derived from the game’s shoddy execution, weak puzzles and frustrating play rhythms, a nest of poor game design decisions through which disappointment, not fear, are hatched.

  • It's almost unfair to review Amy, given the state it's in. On the other hand, it's sort of unfair that it was published at all. The thought of anyone spending money on Amy -- possibly drawn in by the promising trailers -- only to wind up with this mess, is quite honestly a little enraging. There might have been a decent story here once, or even good survival horror, but it's gone now.

  • The sixth chapter ends with only a minor plot payoff and sets up the story for Amy II with a baffling optimism you won't share for Amy's future. Amy has some interesting ideas, not least the pairing of a fight-averse female lead with a fragile but powerful little girl. It's a pity these aren't enough to sustain it through hours of substandard survival horror.

  • In the end, and despite my best judgment, several hours of experimentation with the fifth chapter's idiotic rules left me with little aside from increased blood pressure and an overwhelming longing for a disc version of Amy to snap in half.

  • The game has no point, is extremely disorganized, and controls like three blind mice on Mars. Pretty much everything available on the Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network is better than this. In fact I think staring at a wall would be a better way to spend your time, as boring definitely beats frustration in this case. Sure, you may think you've seen bad games before, or can handle frustratingly bad game design.

  • The graphics engine looks like it was developed for the previous console generation, there are inexplicable moments where the framerate suddenly drops and the game stutters hard (often during your attacks), the enemy AI is just bad enough to be hyper-deadly. Yet none of that is important - what’s important is that AMY is just no fun to play and, not only that, is actually really unpleasant a huge percentage of the time.

About the game

In the small town of Silver City (Midwest, USA) in the year 2034, a comet strike has brought havoc on humanity and unleashed a deadly virus that has infected almost everyone. Lana has just regained consciousness in the midst of all the mayhem. The world she once identified with seems to have been torn to Hell, and most of the people she knew have now become part of a wild horde. Lana feels the virus beginning to infect her and knows she must run as far as possible to escape the nightmare. But then there is Amy, a seemingly defenseless eight-year-old autistic girl who has curious powers. Together, they must fight or run from the infected humans, demons and the military, in the hope of not only saving each other, but also the future of humanity.
