  • Overall, I enjoyed my time with All-Star Fruit Racing. I’ll admit, it initially gave me a bad impression. The combination of a 50-second long initial loading time (I timed it!), a music-less and boring tutorial, and the awkward inane witch’s laugh that persists throughout a race while I’m playing all led me to a preconceived idea about this game.

  • All-Star Fruit Racing is alright at best. In a console that suffers from a severe shortage of kart racers, this isn’t exactly the worst choice you could have, but it’s far from being in the same level as the most famous games in the genre. At the very least, you can learn some fun facts about fruits and nutrition while the game loads. Who said video games can’t teach you new things?

  • All-Star Fruit Racing is a decent enough kart racer that offers a few interesting ideas of its own but unfortunately suffers in a few areas whether it’s the awkward control scheme, confusing weapon system or even a general lack of online features. There’s fun to be had from this fruit-inspired title, sure, but perhaps a little ripening could have helped sweeten this uneven racer.

  • Polar opposite to the joy-filled courses are the dreary music beats. These are not only overshadowed by character and item noises, but are also not given any traditional vibes to match that of tracks they represent. When music finally does come to light, the tunes are wearisome due to their simplistic jingles and uninspiring choruses. No tune truly invigorates and consequently a championship race could give off the impression of a casual track day.

  • All the typical power ups are here; projectiles, boost, a shield, and more, giving you plenty of ways to take the fight to the opposition. You can even detach certain blenders if you wish, allowing you to make sure you get the power ups that you need. Or you can leave them all connected, enabling you to use your character’s unique ability when all four blenders are full.

  • I have a lot of questions for this game, like why is Poseimon one of the last tracks I unlock when it's so dull and why does Dino Juice have a Jurassic Park design motif with a Danny Elfman inspired music track? Or why did I race the same track two different times in a single cup? But I don't want to think about what the answers to those would be because I really don't want to think about All-Star Fruit Racing anymore.

  • All-Star Fruit Racing is a decently structured kart racing game that offers up quite a chunk of content in return for its fairly generous asking price. The main issue here is that despite being fun, much of the content lacks originality, refinement and depth. All-Star Fruit Racing may stand out, but it doesn’t quite manage to stand tall. Those that seek simplicity may enjoy this, but for those seeking more, hold out for Team Sonic Racing.

  • All-Star Fruit Racer is a bold attempt at making a name for itself in an oversaturated genre. Unfortunately, the lack of focus on delivering a consistent product has left AFR a little under-ripe and could have done with a bit more time to develop.

  • All-Star Fruit Racing is a relatively fun kart racer that has some good ideas, but it all goes a bit pear-shaped. Though it provides a decent amount of content both in single and multiplayer, the wavering performance, some iffy design choices, and a general lack of polish may spoil your appetite. If you're hungry for a simple kart racing experience on PS4, this may give you a bite of the cherry, but it'll sadly never be top banana.

  • This is a competent racer, and there’s just about enough content to make you want to keep playing, but it never realises the potential that it could have had and doesn’t really stand up to the heights that other titles can offer. It’s just a little on the weak side to justify its asking price, so bear that in mind before jumping into a fruity purchase.
