  • I can say this honestly; I just didn’t have fun playing Alien Rage. I thought after the growing pains of the first few levels, the game and I would fall into our groove and things would improve.

What game were we talking about again? I’ve pretty much forgotten Alien Rage already. Between its lack of personality or distinctive, original features of any kind, and completely non-existent multiplayer community, the only memorable aspect is its annoying and frustrating difficulty spikes.

  • In spite of its sense of speed and unrelenting challenge, its monotonous level design and lackluster atmosphere grow tiring, and few people are taking advantage of the barebones multiplayer modes. Admittedly, it provides quite a rush at times, and beating it on hard or brutal feels like a major accomplishment. Yet, such feelings are fleeting. You'll be as quick to forget Alien rage as a UFO abductee is quick to forget details of extraterrestrial probing.

  • Alien Rage could have been a very good old school shooter a la Bulletstorm, but curious design decisions, poor execution, and a severe lack of polish mar the experience. The shooting itself is passable and the soundtrack hits the mark, but for $20, you’d be better off picking up a used copy of Serious Sam or Bulletstorm for a dose of absurd FPS action.

  • Countless bugs and a brutally unnecessary difficulty curve help artificially lengthen the game’s four hour campaign, while simultaneously ruining any chance that Alien Rage had to be enjoyable. Even if you’re interested in games that are difficult for the sake of being difficult, you won’t fulfill those needs with this. I simply cannot recommend this game to anyone.

  • So I don’t know who Alien Rage is marketed towards. It’s a completely capable and attractive shooter that does almost nothing special. I had fun playing it, but at this point there are other older games on Steam you can play for the same amount of money that I’d recommend many heartbeats sooner. With both single player and multiplayer doing almost nothing that says “Pick me!” during dodgeball, Alien Rage is going to get tagged out fairly early in.

  • With competent design decisions backing it up, the fundamentals of Alien Rage could make for something genuinely entertaining. Unfortunately, the only entertainment Alien Rage has given me was in the writing of this review. It's usually a saddening thing, to have to trounce a game so utterly, but in this case, I felt I deserved a treat

  • Alien Rage is essentially the generic marine alien shooter that we’ve all grown accustomed to over the years and really has no aspirations of being anything different. It feels a bit like the picture that comes with the frame and if there was a default program installed on computers called “alien shooter – marine demo,” it would be indistinguishable from Alien Rage.
