- It’s what’s behind the eyes that counts
Sarah Thwaites · Mar 04, 2025 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Even all these years later, A Way Out is still a fun experience, especially on the PS5 4 Prison Break A Way Out was originally released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in 2018 but today we’re checking it out on the PlayStation 5 and even today, it offers a unique and engaging cooperative…
Adrian Gunning · Feb 26, 2025 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Despite these minor flaws, though, it must be mentioned that A Way Out ran incredibly well throughout the entire journey we undertook with it. Both my co-op partner and I have serviceable internet connections, with neither of us experiencing even one instance of lag, despite playing the entirety of the content through online co-op.
Miles T · Apr 03, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - A Way Out is as divisive as its main characters, Leo and Vincent. Each time I want to say something bad about the game, I am reminded of something it did brilliantly. But each time I think of something positive, I’m reminded of some of the gameplay or moments that remove you from playing. It does a lot right in an unusual, sometimes clunky way. Brothers was a tale of two sons, A Way Out is a tale of two games.
Todd Eggleston · Mar 29, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - A Way Out truly excels at being a really unique video game experience. It tells a familiar cinematic story in a way no other medium can thanks to its brilliant execution. Some may find elements of the game lacking due to it being a bit simple but it can also be seen as a positive due to the fact that it allows more people to play the game. It could alienate some hardcore gamers but if you’re looking for a good co-op experience, A Way Out is one of the best of its kind.
Cade Onder · Mar 29, 2018 Reviewed on PC, PS4, XB1Read full review - There's a constant mood about A Way Out that makes it seem like it's more inventive than it really is. Disregard that and you're left with a decent-enough story with some genuinely enjoyable video game moments. It's campy fun and that's perfectly fine. Just don't expect too much more.
Brett Makedonski · Mar 29, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - A Way Out is a successful experiment in co-operative play with some excellent presentation and varied gameplay. The story may be predictable, but you'll be surprised how attached you become to Leo and Vincent, and you'll be compelled to see their journey through to the end regardless. The ambition shines through in the end, and for anyone after a truly unique co-op game, you need look no further.
Push Square Staff · Mar 26, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Even with some sloppy writing and a hackneyed story, A Way Out's gameplay is so infectious and its heart so since that it's almost impossible to resist. Long live couch co-op.
Jimmy Donnellan · Mar 26, 2018 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - I appreciate the attempt of what it tried to do by changing its mechanics but it’s was not the first game to use the mechanics in the way it does to tell a story, especially at its climax. The moments of greatness however make it clear that Fares and Hazelight are a talented crew who deserve attention and are the reasons I can’t simply right this game off. Ultimately I would say this game would’ve done better with its tongue in its cheek rather than its heart on its sleeve.
Anthony Mann · Mar 23, 2018 Reviewed on XB1Read full review - Still, if it occasionally falls victim to David Cage-itis, at least there’s no uncomfortable nudity (the only instance is a brief flash of sidewang in the opening chapter). And there’s plenty to admire in its mad-eyed ambition, if not in how it plays, then at least in the way it strains to compete with blockbuster games with a fraction of the budget—and in splitscreen to boot.
