- A Normal Lost Phone is an interactive story told through a lost phone that we interact with by looking through messages, emails, and pictures, trying to identify who the owner is.
SleepyParrot · Feb 16, 2021 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - I don’t mean to downplay the message that A Normal Lost Phone carries, and I can’t understate how important it is that this game exists and the awareness that it will raise. But, it also shows that there is a continued need to experiment with how we explore the power of storytelling in video games, with room for improvement in whatever the developer has planned next.
Alex Seedhouse · Apr 02, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - I have done my best to avoid any hints or spoilers to the game in this review, instead outlining what works and what doesn’t so that the truth of the story can be preserved. This works as an alternative to some light reading on a rainy day but young or hardcore gamers would most likely find the experience of an interactive text story dull.
Alexander Thomas · Mar 02, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - A Normal Lost Phone is a tough game to recommend. The concept is intriguing and there’s a genuinely interesting narrative at the center of the experience, but it’s all so fraught by poor execution and mediocre presentation that we can hardly suggest you pick this one up. You could do a whole lot worse for three bucks, but you’re also getting exactly what you pay for and nothing more.
Mitch Vogel · Feb 28, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - A Normal Lost Phone does a lot of things right: unlocking story bits is interesting, the phone premise pays off, and the atmosphere sells Sam’s character. Seeing such delicate subject matter in a game is nice, but the end game felt a bit preachy without offering anything too helpful. I would definitely play another phone-snooping game with more surprises in the story as I wasn’t blown away by any revelations here.
Adam Abou-Nasr · Feb 28, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - A Normal Lost Phone is a game with a really brilliant concept. It covers complicated, sensitive topics which, in many ways, is a bold and brave thing to do in today’s world. The puzzle elements can be a bit frustrating, but in the end, the whole package is very well done. Fans of Her Story will definitely appreciate it, and I think – I hope – that the reception of it will be a positive one.
Becca Smith · Feb 13, 2017 Reviewed on PCRead full review - A Normal Lost Phone may not be the longest or most mechanically dense game out there, but I enjoyed every moment I spent with it. It's writing and story are so well presented that your phone snooping feels incredibly real and personal. It's a level of intimacy that most other video games completely fail to capture, which just goes to show how special A Normal Lost Phone is.
Campbell Bird · Feb 03, 2017 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - A Normal Lost Phone is thoughtfully designed, leveraging voyeurism, curiosity, responsibility, and compassion to tell a strong, character-driven story unlocked through satisfying puzzle-solving.
Lian Amaris · Jan 30, 2017 Reviewed on iOS, AndRead full review - Emotional, alluring, and compelling from start to finish, A Normal Lost Phone is a phenomenal visual novel that takes full advantage of Nintendo Switch in a creative way, while telling a story with a genuinely powerful message. The investigative elements are gripping and require a sincere attention to detail, and the soundtrack is appropriately atmospheric for mobile phone sleuthing.
Renan Fontes · Apr 26, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - When a game stylishly schools me about social issues, I consider it a winner. But when a game is able to actively educate me on a subject I wrongly thought I understood, I have to consider it a great achievement. A Normal Lost Phone may be a short, sweet experience, but its frank exploration of LGBTQ+ issues and bravery to wade into social territory where few games have gone before means it is a must-buy, and must-learn.
