In the end, 3D Fantasy Zone isn’t as necessary or as historically significant as some of the previous Sega 3D Classics’ entries. That being said, it’s still a quality shoot-’em-up that is a real joy just to see in motion. Those looking for a true challenge will want to inquire here, as Fantasy Zone, if nothing else, has a devilish propensity to shatter players’ spirits with its steep challenge.

With its charmingly cute and colourful designs combined with catchy upbeat music, Fantasy Zone is instantly appealing. ...In summary, though, fans of arcade shooters should pick this up without a second thought - it's a welcome and long overdue return of a true classic.

Although it does not impress quite as much as other recent SEGA 3D Classics re-released on the 3DS eShop, like 3D After Burner II, for example, it certainly still deserves its own place on the platform and manages to stand on its own.

Even with the occasionally crushing difficulty, it’s hard not to love 3D Fantasy Zone. It’s not only an interesting footnote in Sega history and a fantastic port, but a unique and charming shooter that still holds up today.
