- 3D Afterburner II is an excellent addition to the ever-growing Sega 3D collection. Its high challenge, short, bursty, arcade gameplay isn't for everyone, but if you feel nostalgic for Sega's fighter combat game, or simply want to experience a classic slice of mid-80's sprite-scaled madness and mayhem, six bucks is a pretty reasonable price of admission – especially when you consider just how finely crafted a package this really is.
Jaz Rignall · Jan 22, 2015 Reviewed on 3DS - That being said, it has its issues, primarily the inherent hectic nature of the gameplay happening on a small screen, control hiccups and an overall lack of content. But by and large, this feels like After Burner II as it was meant to be. It may not be as dynamic as the actual arcade, but it comes about as close as one can get to emulating the actual experience. Score-chasers, 16-bit enthusiasts, arcade-game aficionados and Sega addicts all need apply for this one; anyone outside of those groups may not get as much from it, but even still there’s fun to be had.

If you are even remotely interested in Sega and/or arcade history, or just wanting a quick and colorful action fix on your 3DS, you can’t go wrong with this affordable labor of love from Sega and M2.
Ryan Grove · Jan 20, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - We simply can't recommend 3D After Burner II enough. It's a game designed to be played in short bursts and to that end it lacks narrative and mechanical depth, but its core strengths shine bright. With a kickass soundtrack, Sega's wonderful 'blue sky' aesthetic and a superb modern mode, this is an essential purchase for retro enthusiasts and endless runner fans alike.
Dave Cook · Jan 18, 2015 Reviewed on 3DSRead full review - 3D After Burner II may be a product of its time but it is a time worth remembering. There is some pretty good action that is not too common on the 3DS. Thanks to all the options included, it has become a much easier game to finish but, for those who crave a greater challenge, the bonus mode offers something unique to the original release. It goes to show how such an old and quaint title can still be very gratifying when all the right elements are in place. Simple and easy to use tight controls with high speeds can result in some fine gameplay that all the most advanced hardware and specs in the world can't ever accomplish.
