  • I experienced plenty of great baseball moments, with a number of close games, heroic performances, high-pressure situations, and a desperate late-inning squeeze play to get me into the playoffs. It’s not a deep simulation, but for a fun, semi-casual yet challenging baseball game, Super Mega Baseball is your best bet on PC.

Super Mega Baseball is a great throwback to the baseball games I grew up with and loved. It is the perfect couch multiplayer game with friends, I just really wish online play was part of the package. For anyone who has enjoyed the classic arcade-style baseball game in the past, the genre is finally back to its original, fantastic form. Do not hesitate to pick up Metalhead’s latest no matter which console you own.

  • Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings is a good arcade style game with some great physics and gameplay mixed in to make it a fairly fun baseball title for all gamers of any skill to get into, thanks to the Ego system. What I can’t understand though is that games that scream online multiplayer don’t always get the online functionality, and if online was added here it could have turned this good game into a fairly amazing one.

  • Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings sits comfortably between being an inviting arcade-style romp and a serious baseball simulator. It’s easy enough to get into the swing of things, but there’s plenty of depth for those looking for a baseball video game to invest in. Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings offers enough content and gameplay systems to engage players regardless of their appreciation of the sport. As seriously as Super Mega Baseball: Extra Innings takes the sport, it’s still a fun video game first and foremost.

  • It's an enjoyable baseball sim experience, but one that lacks personality even with the ability to customize the roster to your heart's content. There isn't much to offer beyond the two gameplay modes, but there's still a lot to do even with just a season and exhibition to play around in. What SMB lacks in presentation depth, it more than makes up for in gameplay.

  • It’s just a shame that the majority of casual gamers – to whom the bright arcade-like visuals will appeal most – will likely struggle to get a handle on the complex control system. The lack of any true tutorial system has truly done the game a disservice, as someone unfamiliar with a baseball game will unlikely find the impetus to persevere with mastering the art of this game.

  • Super Mega Baseball should be your next purchase if you moderately enjoy baseball on any level. Although it doesn't have the bells and whistles you may expect from a recent sports title, you'll be playing for quite some time based on the strength of the core game alone, whether it's by yourself or with friends.

Super Mega Baseball is a blast to play in short bursts. The controls are simple and intuitive, and the difficulty can be adjusted to any skill level. There are no online game modes, but the season mode is surprisingly deep, with a leveling system and complete stat tracking that keep me coming back for more. The lackluster presentation, however, hinders the overall experience, making it difficult to play more than a few games per sitting.

At its heart Super Mega Baseball feels like those old games I loved, I just wish they would have just focused on making the core game work and left out the additional systems, which not only don’t enhance the game but actively detract from it. It’s a classic example of a game that I’ll still play, but always be bothered that it didn’t live up to its potential.

  • No sports video game of 2014 approached its subject with as much imagination as Super Mega Baseball. In such a rigid genre with high barriers to new ideas, this game is a legitimate breakthrough. Super Mega Baseball is an arcade sports game for the ages.
