  • I have my qualms regarding the pricing and the visuals, but one thing’s for certain: this is still Advance Wars, and it’s still addictive. The return of the map creator and online matches ensure this collection’s lasting appeal goes beyond the duration of its two already entertaining campaigns. In short, Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a return to form for a dormant and forgotten franchise, and hopefully the first step in a new era for the series.

  • Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a faithful reintroduction to the series for new and long-time fans. It’s great to have Advance Wars back in our lives, with updated visuals and voicework that bring this title to life. Hopefully, this means the beginning of all-new adventures for Orange Star!

  • Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp isn't a perfect title on its own merits, but it's addictive, stylish, and fun. The wonderful characters make up for an uninteresting and predictable plot. It'd be great to see more Advance Wars and other Wars titles make their way over to the system, but adding matchmaking for online play would be a must.

  • As you’d expect there are multiplayer modes too, and you can play up with up to three other people locally – but only one on one online for some reason. There’s no matchmaking either, which is puzzling and possibly the only real issue we ran into with the game. Ultimately this is an improved version of an already almost perfect strategy game, and its bulkier sequel isn’t bad either. We recommend you sign up forthwith.

  • Ultimately Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is a fairly successful remake of the first two Advance Wars games. While appreciation of the new aesthetic may vary, the game retains the tightly designed strategic combat of the original duology while adding a few welcome tweaks. It’s a shame this remake doesn’t have a robust online experience to offer returning players.

  • Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp is exactly what it promises. A polished and fine-tuned remake of the original two Advance Wars games. In this package, you’ll get two great strategic experiences that come with plenty of missions, objectives, multiplayer modes and even a map creator to keep you entertained for a good long while.

  • Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp offers two excellent strategy titles which will keep players busy for a ton of hours. Whether you’re an old fan happy to be back in command or someone enlisting for the first time, there’s a lot to recommend here. A bit more work updating things, particularly the balance of the latter half of the first game and the multiplayer experience would have been welcome but that shouldn’t stop those wanting an excellent strategy experience from picking this one up.

  • Two decades in, the Advance Wars games prove that they undoubtedly stood the test of time. Beneath WayForward’s super glossy coat of polish, you’ll find a balanced and reliable gameplay engine that you’ll want to take for a spin over and over again. If there is one gripe we have with Re-Boot Camp, it’s that the 3D visuals don’t really do the original pixel art justice.

    About the game

Lead Andy, Max, Sami and other colorful Commanding Officers in a fun turn-based strategy game. Your expertise is needed as you move land, air, and naval units across the game map. Call upon your Commanding Officers for help—each has their own specialties and powerful abilities. For example, Andy can repair units while Sami can boost the abilities of troops. Keep an eye on the game-changing terrain and weather as you lead a variety of units across multiple maps. This from-the-ground-up remake features two campaigns that cover the events of Advance Wars and Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising!
