Just lame.  I don't find this stupid amount of buttons a fun challenge, it's an annoyance.  Everytime I see an enemy out of nowhere, I have to hit block and target before being able to swing.



It's the same as any other combat game but with the annoyance of having to constantly have to hold L1.  It was annoying in the 90's on Street Fighter 2 having to do moves with the left shoulder button and yet we still have game after game requiring these annoyingly placed buttons.  If I'm facing towards someone, then god damn swing at them, not slice thin air and leave me facing the wrong way getting attacked from behind.



The first boss is meant to be challenging but the main challenge is just operating the other buttons whilst holding the left shoulder button.  Once you jam your hand in an awkward position, then it's pretty easy to beat but inducing arthritis isn't my idea of good gameplay.



Game looks nice.  That's about it.  I'd take a good Ys game over this any day.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty

Before we begin, I need to state that I am a massive fan of the Nioh series. Beaten both Nioh 1 and 2 and continued on till NG+3. And I was hoping that Wo Long would sort of hold its place as a "Nioh 3". But sadly it didnt.

What really makes Wo Long hurt its chances with being a good souls game is that it hardly has any diversity to its builds. You can make a few skills in sorcery work but most of them do not make such impact. And yes, most of them DO NOT deliver an impact on new game plus.

In the Nioh series, the whole point (end game wise) to play the game through new game plus was to make broken builds that can break the game. Wo Long however does not grant such endgame playstyle. There's just a few endgame builds out there that sort of match the end game builds you can find in Nioh 2. But, they sort of pale in comparison.

Now lets talk about the fortitude system. Oh boy, this pile of shit. I understand that they want the game to be "easier" for some players. But this system encourages grinding. I hardly grind in souls game. In fact. my brain is like hard-wired to know that grinding in souls-like games isn't really all that worth it. If I died from a boss, I want to go straight to the boss and fight again on an even playing field. Not this honky crap that makes me waste time just to make things a "little" easier.

Oh and the Sorcery is dogshit. Hardly anything in it is useful. And don't you ever tell me again that it "GeT's bEtTeR" on new game plus. I've been hearing it non-stop from some defenders. Wow, really? Guess what? Nioh 1 and 2 had the Onmyo and Ninjitsu skills that really dump its load all over Wo Long cause they are VIABLE in your first playthrough. Not just on New game + 1,2,3 or even 7. They work well immediately when you invest on them.  
  
You'll be sticking to melee-counters for the majority of the game. Not that there is anything wrong with that. Its just that I expected to play a Nioh-like game. Not a Sekiro-like game.

If you are a fan of the souls like games, you might want to give the game a try. But for me, a Nioh fan, its a disappointing pass.

Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty is a dramatic, action-packed story of a nameless militia soldier fighting for survival in a dark fantasy version of the Later Han Dynasty where demons plague the Three Kingdoms. Players fight off deadly creatures and enemy soldiers using swordplay based on the Chinese martial arts, attempting to overcome the odds by awakening the true power from within. This is the story of officers, who will later become heroes, during their ‘unknown’ period, and also the story of a protagonist’s rise from being a ‘nobody’.
