  Hey Poor Player

The core gameplay is still very good, albeit stuck several years in the past, but everything around it is awful. The modes I still enjoy feel like they’re buried further in the menus every year. It feels like the only way to enjoy NBA 2K23 in a nonexploitive way is to avoid all the parts of it that its creators want you to play.

NBA 2K23 has set the bar of excellence for what a world class sports game is truly made of. Though its clear-cut inconsistencies across the next and current generation editions diminishes its overall potential, NBA 2K23 has still risen to the top as one of the best sports games of the year.

NBA 2K23 is a really REALLY good basketball game, the best in town. But in practice, it serves up a broth of greed that preys on players.

Aside from the welcome new premise, you’ll find that tweaks have made to the badge system, giving you more control over how you build your character than ever before. Beyond that, MyCareer is largely the same as ever, but just that bit more polished and interesting. There’s a whole city to explore and things to get involved in, including Quests. Online play has been implemented with finesse, too, allowing you to jump into game of all types without much fuss.

NBA 2K23 is a great basketball game that will please newcomers to the genre and series, as well as veterans who have seen the series grow. We loved the very realistic visuals, the tight controls, and the many modes and options to choose from.

NBA 2K23 at its core is the same great experience that players enjoy each and every year, while also still mired by the unpleasant microtransactions for your MyPlayer. This year's return of the Jordan Challenge, however, takes the game to new heights that it has not felt for a number of years now thanks to the level of authenticity found in the presentation and gameplay surrounding the GOAT Michael Jordan.

NBA 2K23 gives you the most authentic Basketball experience you will ever have. It has taken the basketball simulation to the next level and is the closest to experiencing real-life basketball games. It has all the elements which comfortably fit your play style.

It's certainly not perfect, as I still keep running into odd glitches now and then, and even some strange things that carry over from the last game (Do I really have to keep walking through the Dallas Mavericks shootaround to get to my guys? Why is that still a thing?), but it is and shall likely always be the sports game I play almost every day, no matter what time of year it actually is — even when the fans tell me I stink.

Eventually, NBA 2K23 is a game that will still keep you entertained for some time, though the lack of a more massive overhaul will probably upset way too many fans of the franchise.

This game should go down as one of the best sports games ever, instead it's a chilling reminder of the chokehold microtransactions have over the genre.
