- The story doesn't have quite the same element of surprise as the first game, but it still builds upon things with some daring twists of its own. Any minor quibbles we have melt away when the game's firing on all cylinders. It's a gorgeous, wildly fun action RPG, and there's nothing else quite like it.
Stephen Tailby · Feb 15, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - A triumphant return for Aloy that finds a heart and soul among all the technology – both the robot dinosaurs and Guerrilla's technical prowess.
Patrick Dane · Jun 24, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - It’s absolutely gorgeous, the controls are tight and responsive, and the new weapons are a blast to play around with. The addition of the Pullcaster and underwater exploration were huge improvements to enhancing the gameplay.
Heidi Hawes · Apr 30, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Small gaffes aside, Horizon: Forbidden West is everything I'd hoped for from the first game — and a lot more. It's a beautiful piece of work that deserves all the time a PS4 or PS5 owner can give it. It's a must-have in any game library and should be at or near the front of your rotation.
Redmond Carolipio · Apr 18, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Horizon: Forbidden West is a worthy sequel to Zero Dawn, reaching new impressive heights in terms of story, gameplay, mechanics and the open world design.
LaSt04Ka · Mar 17, 2022 Reviewed on PS4Read full review - Horizon Forbidden West is a delightful follow-up to Zero Dawn with drastically improved graphics and new additions to the gameplay mechanics. While the gameplay can get a bit repetitive and the story doesn’t hit quite as hard as the first game’s, it is an enjoyable romp through a wasteland teeming with machines.
Dev Crowley · Mar 04, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Horizon Forbidden West is a great continuation of the series. We enjoyed the overall story, we did have a lot of fun exploring the new world, and we loved the many monsters we had to overcome. That being said, the game felt a bit lazy at the beginning in terms of Aloy’s ‘lost gear’, and the current build still has many (minor) bugs that detract from an otherwise outstanding experience.
Ibuki · Mar 04, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Horizon Forbidden West is a more confident sequel building on what made its predecessor great. What holds it back are some pacing issues and a few antiquated gameplay elements.
Tyler Chancey · Mar 01, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - This game is phenomenal in every aspect, and Guerrilla Games have yet again shown their quality by producing such beauty. Without question, this is a contender for Game of the Year.
Junior Onunkwo · Mar 01, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - I hoped Horizon Forbidden West would shatter expectations and take the series to the boldest new heights. I thoroughly enjoyed my time with the sequel, but it’s also impossible to ignore there’s so much material to warrant doing far more than just making prettier, bigger worlds with more breathtaking setpieces. Forbidden West is a very good game. It could just be even better.

Explore distant lands, fight bigger and more awe-inspiring machines, and encounter astonishing new tribes as you return to the far-future, post-apocalyptic world of Horizon. The land is dying. Vicious storms and an unstoppable blight ravage the scattered remnants of humanity, while fearsome new machines prowl their borders. Life on Earth is hurtling towards another extinction, and no one knows why. It's up to Aloy to uncover the secrets behind these threats and restore order and balance to the world. Along the way, she must reunite with old friends, forge alliances with warring new factions and unravel the legacy of the ancient past – all the while trying to stay one step ahead of a seemingly undefeatable new enemy.
