  • Conscript is grim to play, but ever-so important. It’s a brilliant homage to the war and the soldiers who fought there, as the horror of the situation and the relentless fear of the battle are clear and constant. Some might find the old-school mechanics a bit wearing, as may a lack of direction, but others will become completely absorbed into the trenches, glad that they’ll never have to experience this war.

  • It goes without saying that CONSCRIPT is – first and foremost – a prodigious project by Jordan Mochi. Shouldering level design, narrative, puzzles, and more to this extent is an incredible rarity in today's age. And that singular vision is felt throughout each and every element. That also comes with potential drawbacks when inspired ideas that seem thematically consistent of this era partly vitiate its grander survival-horror aspirations. The otherwise-robust mechanical foundation gets snagged on barbed wire in the form of mismanaged level design, some cheap enemy encounters, and other miscellaneous detractions. But through it all, the journey remains a harrowing one that's easily worth volunteering your time and money to experience.

  • Conscript takes its evident passion for survival horror and infuses it with purpose and grit through a harrowing depiction of war. More than just homage, Conscript comfortably sits alongside the best, and more unique, of the genre.

  • Conscript maintains a high level of intensity regardless and doesn’t cheapen the experience by adding unnecessary supernatural elements or moments of levity. Similar to its survival horror brethren, it features multiple endings, and while some are more impactful than others, all boast the same dedication to authenticity and the anti-war themes that put it in the same conversation as other Australian anti-war classics like Peter Weir’s Gallipoli.

  • A grim reminder of the senselessness of war and the best old-school survival horror game in ages.

  • Conscript may not be a true survival horror, but it taps into that legacy and roots it in fertile soil.

    About the game

During the First World War, a lone French soldier must navigate twisted trenches, scavenge for limited supplies and solve complex puzzles - all whilst fighting for survival in the midst of mankind’s most brutal and horrifying conflict. CONSCRIPT is a new take on classic survival horror.
