- Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is a wonderful game, but this PS5 upgrade doesn’t do much to justify its existence. You get the DLC and an obtuse 120 fps mode, sure, but you’re basically still getting the exact same experience as if you played the PS4 version on a PS5 or Pro. The game itself is highly recommended, but console upgrades should have more features and this feels like less than the bare minimum.
David Flynn · Jan 20, 2023 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - All in all, Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of DANA is still a great game. We feel that this title is a slightly more relaxing RPG, and we absolutely adored the old-school vibes. That being said, if you already own the game, there is no reason to double-dip or purchase this version on PS5, if you prefer the portability of the Switch.
Ibuki · Dec 17, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - The selection isn’t a massive one, but it includes the patented swimsuits for degenerates – don’t be ashamed and embrace it. There’s also a sprinkling of valuable items meant to help kickstart the journey.
FerniWrites · Nov 27, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - A slight resolution boost, better shadows, and a much improved draw distance gives the game's somewhat aged visuals an edge. Load times are basically non-existent as well.
Robert Ramsey · Nov 15, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Ys VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana is a fantastic action role-playing game that features an endearing narrative, an addictive yet sleek combat system, and a colorful cast of characters.
Henry Yu · Nov 11, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - It feels absurdly surreal that it’s been over six years since Ys VIII first launched. We’ve seen many ports and efforts for optimization, not all of which were cleanly inputted, putting this title through a seemingly endless mire. Thankfully, we’ve finally reached a point where the game has received the just treatment it deserves thanks to its performance upgrades and neat add-ons like the compiled outfits.
Orpheus Joshua · Nov 11, 2022 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Ys VIII: Lacrimosa Of Dana is a title that takes a while to get going, maybe too long, which may be enough to put some people off early and the story is rather sub-par. Those that stick with it will see where the game truly shines. It features a seamless and easy to learn combat system that pretty much anybody can get a grasp of, and it also provides quite the backdrop for those wanting to wander off and explore. Sure, it has its problems, but it’s an experience that I won’t forget any time soon.
Jamie Ward · Jul 25, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Ys VIII is a marvelous game that truly deserves more attention. With my limited exposure to the series I am impressed each time I dive in. Those looking for a classic JRPG that hits all the right notes, you will be hard-pressed to find a better experience, especially on the Switch. I am glad this series is getting more exposure, and would love to see it eventually make its way onto every platform. Don’t be afraid of the number, this is a great game to dive head first into.
Ken McKown · Jun 28, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - Ys VIII on Switch is a polarizing experience. It does some things so well, such as offering the full breadth of PS4 content on the go and a mostly solid framerate - but resolution woes, a translation that still leaves a lot to be desired despite seeing an overhaul, and more makes it somewhat hard to recommend this version of the game if you have access to a PS4.
James Galizio · Jun 23, 2018 Reviewed on SwitchRead full review - YS VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana was certainly a great playing experience. There is a lot to explore and many characters to get to know. It certainly stands out from the ever-growing crowd of RPGs on the Switch. Those looking for a long but delightful RPG experience should definitely give YS VIII: Lacrimosa of Dana a try; it won’t leave you disappointed.
