- Overall, X-Men Destiny is a worthy rent and definitely worth the time of anyone who likes X-Men, anyone who enjoys trophy hunting, or even anyone who likes games in which Nolan North voices (the voice of Cyclops, by the way). A few standout features cannot justify the purchase of X-Men Destiny, but it is definitely a worthy rent and a fairly easy platinum
Timothy Nunes · Oct 14, 2011 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - At the end of the day lacklustre visuals, repetitive combat, short single player campaign and uninspired gameplay are all common themes in X-Men Destiny. You could rent the game over a rainy weekend and bang it off in an afternoon but you are wasting your time, as there are far better options available.
Trevor Houston · Oct 12, 2011 Reviewed onRead full review - With a running time of just about 4 hours from start to finish, it seems obvious that you're meant to play X-Men Destiny with all three characters, but there's no reason to. It's repetitive, ugly, stupid, and boring
Susan Arendt · Oct 07, 2011 Reviewed on X360Read full review - The good news for beat-‘em-up fans is that the combat is fast, furious, and mostly satisfying. The bad news is that repetitive enemy types, lack of cooperative play, and confining levels are decidedly not. Even on the hardest difficulty setting, you’ll beat the game within seven hours. While a new game plus option lets you replay the story with the same character and powers, enemies don’t scale in difficulty
Game Trailers · Oct 04, 2011 Reviewed on X360 - Top to bottom, this game feels rushed, a supposition backed up by Silicon Knights’ history of protracted development cycles, from which X-Men: Destiny did not benefit. While politics of why that’s the case, as well as speculation on the impact more time and money would’ve had on the game, are ultimately irrelevant to the game’s failures as they are, it’s not that hard to see how it could’ve been something great
Ryan Davis · Oct 03, 2011 Reviewed on X360Read full review - X-Men: Destiny is an ugly, boring, lazy little game. Even if it were free, it would be insulting to have one's time wasted in this way, but the fact it's being sold for sixty dollars rubs salt in the wound. It tries to eke out an existence by pretending to be a far richer and more satisfying game than it is, but the promise of a better experience only serves to hammer home just how bad the final product actually is
Jim Sterling · Sep 30, 2011 Reviewed on X360Read full review - Sure, it satisfies a few terms of similarity, but even with an upgrade system thrown in and some hidden collectibles, this is very much a straightforward action game with extremely light RPG features (not much more than you’d find in, say, God of War). Even for an action brawler, this one is as mindless as they come
Steven Hopper · Sep 30, 2011 Reviewed on PS3Read full review - On top of it all, Destiny is an ugly game. The simple character models and muddy textures make it look like it was made several years ago, and the unattractive effects that accompany your powers make them feel underwhelming. You can breeze through this adventure in under six hours, but the gameplay is so shallow that you won't be left wanting more, and because your choices have so little impact
Carolyn Petit · Sep 29, 2011 Reviewed on PS3, X360Read full review - In years past, Silicon Knights boss Denis Dyack has railed against critics writing "previews" that feel more like reviews of what's still a half-finished product. How ironic that his company and Activision have just forced me to do exactly that
Justin McElroy · Sep 28, 2011 Reviewed on X360 - Add in some middling environment and character visuals on top of the lackluster gameplay, and X-Men Destiny has some big problems. Five years ago, I would have a lot more positive things to share about the game, but action titles have advanced in that time, and Destiny doesn’t keep pace
