  • There’s no question about it. WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2007 definitely hits the mat with some great improvements, but it’s still predominantly the same game you’ve been playing for the last few years. Albeit, a shinier, flashier version. Wrestling fanatics should definitely pick it up, just don’t expect any genre-changing paradigm shifts.

  • In the end, WWE SmackDown! vs. Raw 2007 is a great game for WWE fans, whether you own a PlayStation 2 or an Xbox 360. The game engine is certainly in need of a makeover, and this might be the last year THQ can offer what is more or less a slight update, but it's a fun game and something that will get more than a few hours play with some mates.

  • WWE SmackDown! Vs. Raw 2007 makes some nice additions and improvements to the SvR formula. However, some of the more glaring issues, like stiff controls and poor AI, are still present. Still, this is probably one of the best WWE wrestling games out there, warts and all.

  • WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2007 has its share of lingering problems that probably ought to have been cleaned up long ago, and some of the improvements it makes don't come across as terribly necessary. But what the game does right, it does very right. There's so much to do and experience throughout the game, and as a multiplayer game, it's a riot to play, especially with a lot of the crazy gimmick matches.

  • We can forgive the fact that certain things aren't up to date (it's impossible to pin down a definitive roster, angle, and/or gimmick since they change constantly) and some of the clipping issues, but we wish other elements were improved. Collision detection still needs work, and the commentary is as repetitive as ever.

Don't let our nitpicking fool you (after all, we snipe because we care) -- WWE SmackDown vs. Raw 2007 is still an imposing beast of a wrestling game. Regardless of its dated animations, rosters, and foolish AI, it's still a heck of a lot of fun. Thousands of different grappling holds await those who tread its squared circle, while the new analog-based mechanics and ultimate control moves add depth to a system that most would expect to be exhausted.

  • Smackdown vs RAW is the wrestling FIFA - drowning in customisable settings, but the gameplay isn't always completely there. However, like FIFA, SvsR has made some admirable steps this year. Let's hope next year, when there isn't a PS2 version to use as a lowest common denominator format, Yuke's will let rip and show us what the next-gen can really do.
