Critic Reviews
- Wuthering Waves is one of the best gacha games on the market thanks to its fantastic combat, lush world, and nearly overwhelming wealth of content.
· Jul 19, 2025 Reviewed on PCRead full review - GREAT Rinascita isn't the first turning point for Wuthering Waves, but it's certainly the most significant. For those burned out by Genshin, it's a fine time to visit the Carnevale.
Ravi Sinha · Jan 09, 2025 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - Wuthering Waves is launching on the PS5 at the perfect time, as its new quests are action packed and its improvements over the likes of Genshin Impact are obvious to appreciate. Its story is unfortunately infested with the worst of gacha game writing, so you’ll need a strong stomach to get through the abundance of proper nouns. But stick with it and you’ll find a beautiful, anime-inspired experience with quality combat, rewarding team building, and hundreds of hours of excellent exploration.
Sammy Barker · Jan 08, 2025 Reviewed on PS5Read full review - While I bounced off a lot of the characters, Wuthering Waves offers features and enjoyable action in a unique post-apocalyptic world.
Daniel DeAngelo · Aug 06, 2024 Reviewed on AndRead full review - Despite my general misgivings and dissatisfaction towards Wuthering Waves, I sincerely hope them the best.
STEPHANIE LIU · Jul 03, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - While its launch hasn't been ideal, Wuthering Waves does already show enough strong assets to keep players engaged in the long term. Its cast of characters has been richly designed and perfectly modeled, while the world is already overflowing with content and exploration is a real pleasure, despite the oftentimes tedious lore. Kuro Games has also been generous at launch in terms of character giveaways; players and the game will hugely benefit if the developer maintains that approach.
Thomas Froehlicher · Jun 24, 2024 Reviewed on iOSRead full review - Wuthering Waves is overall a compelling alternative to Genshin Impact, with the combat system being its major differentiator. So if you’ve been looking for an alternative, this is pretty good. Playing the game, I wasn’t really overwhelmed or underwhelmed – I guess I was just… “whelmed”.
Lord Abad · Jun 13, 2024 Reviewed onRead full review - Wuthering Waves combo-heavy action, mobility, and monster taming enhance combat and exploration enough to respectably distinguish it from competitors. Its combat is polished and sophisticated, rewarding reactivity and pushing me to carefully consider my builds and teams. On top of that, the Echo equipment system ties your character progression into the environment in a way that encourages exploration, which can be satisfying despite the repetitive process of fighting overworld mobs. Unfortunately, the story is a bland, exposition-heavy slog, with dull writing and voice acting that rarely kept me interested. But while the quests may not be what’s pulling me along, I’m still looking forward to checking back in with the next major update to see how Wuthering Waves evolves.
Jess Reyes · Jun 08, 2024 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Despite its excellent combat system, there isn’t enough unique content to carry Wuthering Waves. Most of its other systems are copied from other games, and while it might improve upon some of these, such as having a better movement system than Genshin Impact, it also brings a lot of poorly designed systems, like the Union Level and terrible gacha pull rates on 5* weapons and characters (0.8%).
Nick Shively · Jun 05, 2024 Reviewed on AndRead full review - In its current state, Wuthering Waves is a generic open-world gacha with very few interesting and pleasant moments that shine in world exploration and battle system. If you were looking for a game with a deep, engaging narrative, you might want to give WuWa some more time to cook. However, if you were interested in a title that would hold your interest for a few evenings as you explore the world and throw your cast of characters into dynamic combat and various puzzles, then you will feel right at home.
