  • The most memorable of these had to be the concentration camp running Frau Engel and her paramour Bubi, their creepy relationship and mind-games will haunt me for some time to come. So all in all, WTNO gets a big thumbs up from me and a strong recommendation for anyone whose love of FPS predates online multiplayer. If you fancy some Nazi squishing madness, this is definitely the one for you.

  • In terms of replay value, Wolfenstein noticeably lacks any form of multiplayer, which is a shame considering its unique arsenal and solid combat mechanics. Since the game’s enemy AI and boss battles were so bland, multiplayer could have helped round things out in terms of satiating our need to blow things away with futuristic Nazi weaponry. Instead of multiplayer encouraging you to keep playing, Wolfenstein offers choices you must make for B.J. which tremendously change the plot.

  • Wolfenstein: The New Order is a blast from the past that many will surely see as a breath of fresh air. While some archaic design choices and patience-testing difficulty spikes will attempt to compromise your enjoyment on occasion, the moments to follow generally smooth over any past transgressions. It's a campaign built around memorable settings, circumstances and characters, with gameplay that allows for the freedom and variety to keep things fresh and interesting throughout.

Wolfenstein: The New Order is fantastic and one of the best narrative-driven FPS games I have played since Bioshock. Taking these characters and settings and crafting a compelling single-player experience was an amazing feat; crafting a Wolfenstein game that I cared about without multiplayer was a miracle. I cannot recommend The New Order enough.

  • Limited graphical and audio faults aside, altogether, Wolfenstein; The New Order is a very good game — a true gem among shooters in a sickening sea of shooters. A story that captures interest and characters that hold it until the end, gameplay that falls somewhere between Killzone, Call of Duty, and Duke Nukem, and a complete focus on the single player experience create a roughly 10 hour campaign full of Nazi slaying goodness.

  • Wolfenstein: The New Order is a surprisingly strong shooter that aspires to be more than its premise should allow. While it can only do so much with its cliché magnet of a story, and its graphics don’t hold up to close inspection at times, it’s easy to overlook these shortcomings in the face of everything else that it does well. As a result, the inspired but disturbing world, excellent roster of characters, and exhilarating action make it very easy to recommend this over-the-top rampage.

  • Wolfenstein: The New Order harkens back to old school gameplay values. A smart expansion of the Wolfenstein story, and plenty of options when it comes to how you choose to play, The New Order has proven to be different that a lot “mindless” shooters out there. This has been done by sticking with the absolute basics of what makes shooters fun…shooting, and lots of it. The New Order shines brightest when it takes your leash off, and lets you blaze guns in dramatic fashion.

  • That said, this is still the most fun I've had with a singleplayer shooter since Bulletstorm, and the most substantially well-realised setting for a shooter campaign since Metro 2033. Its writing, music and environmental art all achieve far more than you might expect from the game about a preternaturally durable testicle with a revenge fetish and a gun in each hand.

  • This is a game that could have easily just slapped another quick-and-dirty Nazi invasion plot together and leaned entirely on the shooting of things to get by. Instead, MachineGames has obviously gone to great lengths to turn The New Order into something more than that. ...Even if its ideas only scratch the surface of something deeper, Wolfenstein: The New Order still delivers an experience well worth your time.
