- The surface of Windforge is appealing – making an overused theme seem new thanks to the graphics – and the music fits the mystical, mysterious world, but there is not enough underneath. The game brings new ideas to this forming genre, and the intention is palpable, but falls short on execution.
John Eustice · Mar 12, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Windforge is a frustrating game, but the most frustrating aspect of it is that beneath the ludicrous design choices, tedious quests, and invisible sky whales, there’s the makings of a good game here.
Paul Tamburro · Mar 11, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - The weirdest thing about Windforge is that it is full of potential but chips away at it due to its unpolished nature. Slightly unorthodox controls, menus with a bit more clicking required than necessary, and less than optimal building conditions tone down what could easily be a critically acclaimed experience.
Marcus Estrada · Mar 10, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Windforge is fraught with design flaws, from an auto-save system which has no rhyme or reason to floor hatches and stairs that are, in and of themselves, an annoyance to negotiate. Old school video game design - where the player's hand is not held and you are made responsible for your own mistakes in a deadly, almost frustrating fashion - this is not; it is simply poor game design.
VGChartz Staff · Apr 13, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - In a few months, with patching and improvements, Windforge might still emerge as the experience that it could and should be. At this moment in time it feels rushed out the door, a little too underdeveloped, and unless you've got an abundance of patience, that needs to be considered if you're thinking of making a purchase.
Mike Holmes · Mar 26, 2014 Reviewed on PCRead full review - Instead, we’re left with a game that promises so much, but falters repeatedly in its delivery. The 2D platformer with Minecraft elements and bits of the RPG genre (someone really needs to come up with a snappy name for this) is expanding in exciting directions and Windforge deserves to be a part of that. Yet the novelty of airships and battles with giant sky-whales are simply not enough to save it from its flaws, painful as they are.
